Default SS Hood

Since i graduated high school today , my parents are gonna buy me an SS hood for my graduation present. I have few ?'s about it.

1. Where can i find a genuine, or as close to the actual hood as i can. RKS sport or GM, whats the diff?
2. I have an SLP high flow air lid, when i get the ss hood, in order to make the scoop functional do i need to do something to the lid? If not would it make more sense to buy a non functional hood scoop, if so where could i get one?
3. Rks Sport, GM, or fibertek whos got the best quality. Price isnt an issue, i want quality.

I have a 2000 Z-28 a4.

I did search after search on fitment, quality and just about every thing on the SS Hood. I just bought a OEM GM SS Hood from a Chevrolet dealership, when I was calling bodyshop's on how much they would charge to paint the hood the first thing they asked was how good is the quality of the hood, is it aftermarket or OEM (GM). They said they would charge me more if they had problems fitting and how much work it took them on preping the hood for paint. After they painted my hood they said it bolted right on without a problem, why because it is a GM Hood. I have heard so much things on how some after market SS Hoods take alot of work to fit. But keep in mind that a GM SS hood cost about $1500.00 + tax and shipping but since you said price is not a issue get the OEM SS Hood . The better aftermarket hood I have heard about is the ASCD SS Hood some of the sponsers sell this hood. But some have said the RK Sport Hood was also a good fit. If you don't want to go threw any trouble get a OEM SS Hood. If not get a aftermarket SS Hood. I am not for sure witch SS Hoods are funtional and not I know the GM SS Hood is. Good luck and I hope you get your SS hood it will change the whole look of the car check out my SS Hood in my sig. And congrat's on your graduation .

I think the SS hood is already functional...nothing like the ram air on T/A's but my SS has the actual opening in front of my airbox...kinda snakes around in a tunnel to get there so i'm sure its not good for much. Just to keep the car as close to stock as possible i'd go w/ a GM OEM SS hood. Congrats on ur graduation...off to college next year?? Good luck w/ everything.

I'd go with a cheaper fiberglass hood, IMO... weight reduction.

Yes it is, I'm just saying a cheaper one that weighs less, that's all. I guess I didn't have to say fiberglass, but I suppose someone could have said go with a carbon fiber hood instead, and I don't like the looks of those, IMHO.

There are several companies that sell cheaper hoods that weigh a ton less than the OEM hoods, so they're great for weight reduction.

Ive seen a ss hood for the ls1 camaro on the SLP site. Im guessing that since SLP works directly with GM it would probably fit alright, and im sure its pretty good quality.

Speaking of graduation presents, (I just graduated myself) This pretty lil ride is mine!!
I love graduation presents!!!

wait wait wait...
OEM RAM AIR...has a clearance between the airbox housing and lid...a bigger one then the Z28 or Trans Am (compared to SS or WS6) the WS6 has the space in the front....where the lid is located in both cars is identical in the front....i believe since the SS scoop is set back that they have some sort oflike tubing ro something that sendes the air from the scoop into the lid.....its not as direct as the Ram Air on the WS6....and since without the ramair option....the lid is a bit lower....the hoodscoop would not be functional....

for instance....if i had a regular trans am...and put the rm air hood on it...the hoodscoops arent functional bcuz the gap is lower...

if im rong correct me but that seems like what ive read on here b4

Actually it's a composite hood, or as I like to say...plastique

You can find them on http://www.gm-restorationparts.com. part#'s 11262 or 11263, I don't know the difference.

I would get the OEM, Try to find a wreck. Camaro Haven in NH had a used red 2002 SS hood for $900.

As for The ram air there is no difference in the air intake or lid on the SS and Z28. The ram air comes from the hood nothing else.

I cant believe you just graduated. Students here graduated almost a month ago.

Oh well, as far as the hood goes have you checked out the raptor hoods for the camaro. The look like the Ws6 hood. I like them myself but everyone is different. Oh and some of them are better looking than others. I like the ones that the holes start really close to the bottom.

The Harwood hood is really good, and pretty affordable.

BUT......GM-RestorationParts.com sells the factory GM/SLP SS hood PN 11263 for $ 999 RETAIL (your Chev dealer can order one for you a little cheaper

Check out: http://www.gm-restorationparts.com

Buy a the factory one if you can

Check out my site for LOTS of info on SS: http://members.cardomain.com/kaisenls1
