Default Monsoon HELP!

Alright, I'm brand new to this board, I just bought a 1999 Z28. Looking for some help with my sound system.

The car only has a tape deck, which must change.

I walk into Best Buy, I already know what kind of head unit I want, and so everything is cool until they find out I have the monsoon system. To make a long story short, I went to two different stores. One place told me I could make a new head unit work with the monsoon system if I bought all this adaptor crap, blah blah blah. The next place I go to tells me that there is no possible way to make the monsoon system work with an aftermarket head unit, without replacing all the speakers, wiring, etc. WTF?

So my question is this, how do I get a CD head unit in my camaro? I want it to sound good, and was eventually thinking of replacing the speakers, but I dont have the money to replace everything right now. I dont want to end up spending a 800 dollars on stuff I dont need. Any advice would be helpful.

This a common queston in this section. Do a search for "aftermarket headunit" and you'll find plenty of threads.

Here are a few to get you started:

If you want to keep it cheap and easy, buy a used Monsoon CD player (2001+ prefered) from the "Parts For Sale" section or on eBay (or a junkyard).
