Default lifters on cam install

When doing my cam install yesterday, my lifters would not stay up. I mean they wouldn't stay up for 5 seconds by themselves, let alone hours. Why would that be? We used the pen magnets and got it done, but why the hell would my lifters not stay up at all?? This was the first time anything other than the transmission/clutch has been disconected from the motor if that makes any difference.

Thanks

Your lifter trays were probably just wore out. Good thing you caught this. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

The lifter holders are made of plastic. While I've not seen ones that wouldnt hold up at 20k miles, its not impossible. Now you see how fragile a process it is to just HOPE the lifters stay up, and that is why I *always* use magnets now.
