Ive got a 98z28 A4 with 46000 mi on it. What motor oil do you guys reccomend? Ive heard that Royal Purple makes good oils, do they make a motor oil. Should I go synthetic or non-snythetic?

I use Mobli-1 5w30. Don't think it is the best, but close. I have heard bad things about Royal purple. Amsoil is suppose to be good.

German Castrol Syntec 0-W30 and K&N oil filters. Lots of great reading on this oil on ls1tech and bobistheoilguy.com

I use Mobil 1 10w-30 on my 98. I'll probably switch to Royal Purple though next time around.

If you're going to put Royal Purple in your LS1, I highly recommend their Racing 41. It's much better than their regular 5w30 and 10w30 street oils.

Here's some links from the LS1Tech search engine on that frequently asked question:

By the way I've been using Neo Synthetic oil, in 0w-5 since my car was new in 99'. I absolutely love their stuff.

When I first purchased my LS1 I went out and bought Royal Purple 5w-30. Luckily I read this forum before I put it in my LS1. I went out and bought the German Made Castrol Syntec instead. Since I already had the Royal Purple I figured it would be OK to use in my Blazer. Well, maybe it's just me but it seems that my oil pressure is lower than it was before I put in the Royal Purple. I used to run right around 40lbs when the engine was at temperature and at idle using Mobil 1 5W-30. Now I run about 30lbs with the Royal Purple. Not a big deal since it's a lease but I don't think I will use the 5W-30 Royal Purple even in my daily drivers any longer.

Cool...thanks. Do they sell it where ever the regular RP is sold?

When I used Royal Purple (10W-30), I saw my oil pressure drop about 10 lbs and had an increase in oil consumption. I swapped out a new PCV valve and switched to MobilOne 10W-30 and consumption went WAY down. It might have been the PCV valve, but I've been a little gunshy of Royal Purple ever since.

If they don't, I'm sure those same stores could order it for you.
