Default why did the "change oil" light just come on?

i just changed my oil not even 100 miles ago probably....just now when driving home the change oil light came on...in my truck the oil light is just a timed thing that goes by the odometer i guess, is it the same with our cars? was my light just not reset or something?
TIA

Turn the ignition on, engine off, press and hold the oil/trip button by the odometer for about 12 seconds and it will reset itself. According to the GM manual, the change engine oil light is not based on mileage, but on engine rpm's and engine operating temperature .

when you reset it it goes back to 100% efficiency basically...now depending on your driving habits ie rpm fluxuation during a givin timeframe, startups blah blah blah it calculates the efficiency of the oil...if you start your car twice a day 5 days a week and then drive at 2000rpms for an hour and lets say rack up 70miles each way a day thats gonna be alot less wear then if someone started the car 16 times a day and drove 8 miles of city traffic between startups...basically same mileage but different rpm ranges and such. Some might make it 6000 miles before it pops up to change it some 1000 if you dragrace with the car every other day so its all about your habits not the mileage generally.

All I got to ask is are you running a Fram oil filter?

If you are that the problem they resrict oil at start up thus triggering the light, had the problem with my Z71 all the time till I switched filter brands.

Nooooo I love Fram filters. They have that uber nice grippy thing so it's easy to put on and take off. Don't tell me there's anything wrong with them .

Fram's are the biggest POS.

I gained over 7 PSI of oil pressure by switching out one of their X2 Fram's (something like that).

K&N are the way to go.

You'll gain even more oil pressure if the oil filter had no element at all...

If you want to reset the light without resetting the odometer, you can turn the ignition key to "ON" without starting the engine, then press the accelerator to WOT two or three times in quick succession.
