Infamous Carlsbad......Pictures!
This is what the only sea level track looks like in So.Cal. Enjoy the pics and feel lucky that you have nice tracks around you. Because it really does make it tough to run good times. P.S. I'm glad I don't have to run there anymore. Following the pics, I'll throw in a little narration to introduce you to the track.
http://www.nethole.com/cars/audrey2b.jpg
If you could read the sign in the pic, it says "Warning" race at your own risk. The ice rink is full of weeds! Now does this look like a nice track to you?
http://www.nethole.com/cars/edsteve.jpg
Look at the ultra hi-tech tower in the background. Atleast there is a printer (most of the time) and they don't have to write out your time slips.
http://www.nethole.com/cars/steved1b.jpg
Observe the highway like road towards the top of the screen. Yes, that dirt pit is what the entire entry road looks like.
http://www.nethole.com/cars/jased1b.jpg
This one you can see weeds near the rear tires of this mustang. Also, you can get another glimpse of the dirt road that takes you to the track.
http://www.nethole.com/cars/bad1.jpg
And nope, he didn't even hook!

Man... you paint a nasty picture.

I actually have seen one that was worse (although you pics are pretty bad!)....Go to Mckensies Drag strip in NC...between Lumberton and Myrtle beach...the tower (made out of old railroad ties) caught on fire when I was there..."We must temporarily suspend racing until the tower fire is extinguished"....lol...

Our local 1/8 mile track isn't much better than that. They have had to stop the races to move cattle off the shutdown lane before.
I guess you should just be thankful you aren't limited to only running 1/8 mile. That sucks!
How come nobody opens a track up in SoCal? Seems like a good business opportunity.

Kind of reminds me of the local 1/8th mile track here... It's a real dump, IMHO, but does hook well when they hold any type of special event. Normally it sucks, though...

We had a great track, OCIR, it was one of the best tracks in the country. But as with everything in L.A. every availible space gets knocked down to make room for more houses, condos, office bldgs. If it is not one of those they wont build it.

I wish Fomoso would open more than once every two months. It's still 2hrs away and 1000' alt, but usually hooks well.

And around here at the local hangout spot, if our numbers grow too large, around 100, they kick us all out of the parking lot. Good job, morons, you just put 100 wanna be street racers on the street at the same time. You're cool.

Re: Infamous Carlsbad......Pictures!
He didn't show the 1/2 mile long dirt road you have to drive down to get in, the gravel staging lanes, and the dirt pit area. He also missed the creek that runs through the return road, the extra short slow down area, and the timeslip "van". It also doesn't show the lack of time boards or PA system. It usually takes me 4-5 minuites to clean the gravel off my slicks before I can put them back in the car.
It's too bad too, because the track has good air a lot of the time.

Re: Infamous Carlsbad......Pictures!
That looks like a pretty good track compared to ones I got to in El paso, Tx and Deming,NM. The one in Deming has inproperly setup staging lights, less than 1/16 mile shut down, about a inch sudden drop off at 1/8 mile, and the pits are dirt and gravel. Did I mention the 1/4 mile section is part of a road course, and it only has win light, no time boards, and is at 4600 ft. Yet we still get cars that run low 8s.

Would you believe me if I told you that I've been to much worse? I'll see if I can snap some shots of Idalou Motosports Park next weekend while I'm in Lubbock. www.raceidalou.com It sits in the middle of a cotton field. The entrance and entire pit is all dirt, and the track is very similar to off-roading. My best 60' there ever in the T/A was a 1.70 with the 383 and launching on a 100 shot. This track also sits at 3,200' altitude, so you get great ET's to go with the stellar 60'.
