Default Braking problem while drag racing

My last time out drag racing i had a problem that was kind of scary. When I went to hit the brakes at the end of the 1/4, I felt alot of resistance in the pedal and the brakes did not want to work. I pumped the pedal a bit and they came on. The next run felt alot better but still had some of the same problem. By the third run the brakes were fine. Any idea what the problem might be? If it were air in the line, wouldn't the brake pedal feel mushy and not have a resistance?

Phil I get the same problems for some reason I think it has to do with the different size tires and the ABS . It almost feels as if my ABS is on and the brakes are not really working . Just as you say first pass is the worst and by the third pass the brakes are fine <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

I hear that you should pull the abs fuse when running tires that are different height front to rear.

i get an abs inop light with the 26*11.5*16's and the loss of poer brakes unless i just pull up the parking brake one notch, just enough to make the brake light come on the dash.. try that.
