Default How's this for awesome drag weather?

St.Thomas Ontario dragstrip opens in just over 4 hours, and it's only 24F now, going up to only 37F by this afternoon! It's clear and will be sunny all day, so humidity will be low, and the barometer is at 30.3" so the air is killer!

I'm shooting for 13.8s or better in my stock LT1 with super sticky Toyo RA-1 tires (they are autocross tires but they hook hard when heated up, I can leave at almost full throttle)

Wish me luck!

Good Luck Patman! but I think you are selling yourself short by hoping for a 13.80... I think you will run a little better! Stay Warm!!!

I would've run better than 13.8 if the track hooked, but traction was worse than I have ever seen in more than ten years of racing. They didn't spray any VHT down at all, and with tons of front drive cars there, the starting line was dirty as hell.

On the street with these RA-1 tires I have I can launch almost full throttle without spin, but at St.Thomas I couldn't even come close to doing that. It was spinning bad then shifting to 2nd too soon and bogging hard. Best I could manage was a 14.46 at 98.4, with a pathetic 2.53 60ft. Most people I was with could not do better than 2.5s. My only hope was to get behind a slick-tired car, as they seemed to sweep up the line when they came up, but I wasn't so fortunate.

What ticks me off is that conditions were so good, it never got above 36F, barometer was at 30.4" all day, and humidity was a reasonable 50%. It didn't help that it ended up being mostly cloudy with frequent snow flurries though! If it was full sun the starting line may have bit better.

So if I could get that 60ft down to 1.8 where it should be, I'd run well into the 13s with this stock LT1.

Chris, I was told yesterday (by a guy that knows the track owner) they weren't going to have any VHT next weekend either, so you might want to wait another week before you head out there. I can't imagine how they could let their supply of VHT run out like that, that's poor track management if you ask me. I was so at having such killer weather this weekend, but such poor track prep. Although I wonder also if the import guys ruined it more than anything else. When you have 90% front drive cars at the track, sometimes no amount of track prep would work anyways, since those people have no respect for the track and drag so much dirt and water onto the starting line anyways.

I am going to head out Sunday god willing and hopefully have my wheelwells clearanced enough to fit the 28x10 inch slicks
Also going to have the shiftlight on then as well. No guessing where to shift now with our terrible tach
Even if I can sixty in the high 1.5's-mid 1.6's I will be happy.
Cheers,
Chris

Good luck Chris! I wish I could be there to see it! Bring along your own VHT though!
