Anyone in Illinois running Lou's (g5x2 ) cam?
Just want to know if you found out a way to beat the emissions testing with his cam. It is my understanding that they hook up to your computer and read some parameters on your factory computer. If you pass that you pass the test, I've already read that there are guys that have run head/cam longtube header combos that have passed the test. I really want to run this cam. Back in Jersey we could take it to a gas station that would do the inspection and they were pretty lax, just wondering if Illinois is like that or not.
BTW I need to change my screenname I now own an 02 SOM SS A4. (stock for now <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> )

Dude,
It's just a computer test. As long as you don't have any codes - you're golden. It doesn't matter what cam is in there. If you don't have any stored codes you're fine. If they didn't do a visual check, heck you could even get away w/out running cats too.

Its not Illiniois, but there are a few people in Maryland who passed the computer test with at least cam cars, maybe even more than just a cam. I believe that one guy even rolled in with no cats and still passed. When I had my emissions done last month they didn't even check for cats or even open my hood to look for the egr and AIR equipment (I still had it at the time, but don't anymore).

Question is, how do you keep the codes from being thrown and not delete them through programming?
I have had random misfire codes desensitized (You really need to with any decent size cam), doesn't the test detect this. I also have rear o2s, air pump, and egr deleted (I don't think deleted is the correct term).
So if you have a bigger cam and want to pass emmissions what do you do about random misfire codes? I know I would need to do something about egr, air pump, and rear o2s.

I also live in Lombard Il. The last time I was at the emissions test in Lombard the were pretty bad!! I'm going to try to cut it off at the pass and get a show car race car exemption. If your new moving to the area there is a great speed shop thats local. Speed inc. 1-847-891-0767. Good luck Andy.

You'll pass fine. All you need is them to disable whatever codes you throw. You shouldn't throw any. I have had friends pass with Heads, Cam, and No cats.
It's really simple they plug you in, scan you, and you don't have an SES light you're good to go.

I would like to make sure I will pass. Messing with the emissions folks makes me nervous, they don't deal with emissions tampering to well. Don't want to get flagged.
