Stuff under the hood
Is it ok to take that cloth like material off of the bottom of my hood? It's all falling apart and I just want to rip it out.

My car's a 99, and it doesn't have it. Although it does have the holes for it, so maybe the previous owner took it out, or it wasn't on the 30th's. I dunno. Its not there and its fine

They only used the hood blanket for a couple of years. It was said that the hood blanket was designed to drop down off it's plastic clips and help smother an engine fire if something like that ever happened. I read that GM eliminated it as another cost cutting feature. I think it looks better without one and would have taken it off if my car came with one.
