Changing Out To Longer Front Wheel Studs
How are you guys changing the front wheel studs without the special "KentMoore" GM tool?? I don't know how comfortable I am with just screwing a lug on and banging them out the old fashioned way!!
Any ideas!

Re: Changing Out To Longer Front Wheel Studs
I get out the BIG hammer with 2 big hits the old one falls out. I clean out the stud hole, slip in the new stud, put on a few washers then the lug nut and tighten it till it seats completely.

Re: Changing Out To Longer Front Wheel Studs
How long are the studs you recommend? With a spacer, do they meet the "width of the stud into the nut portion" to be NHRA legal??

Re: Changing Out To Longer Front Wheel Studs
Like above I got a big hammer and a couple whacks later the old ones are on the floor. Then I added a little antiseize to the knurl and just turned the stock lug nut backwards and 45 seconds later the new stud is seated perfectly

Here's a pic of the front hub with a stock stud next to it. Let's see if this works

Re: Changing Out To Longer Front Wheel Studs
I didn't take the hub off the car to replace the studs thats for something else I had no problems with everything on the car

Re: Changing Out To Longer Front Wheel Studs
I just jacked up the car, took the tire off and started hitting the studs out. Yes leave the hub on it ie REALLY easy to do.

Re: Changing Out To Longer Front Wheel Studs
I have to update... I ordered mine from the dealer. A few whacks on the old ones and using a lug nut and a cheater bar had the new ones in in about an hour.

Re: Changing Out To Longer Front Wheel Studs
How long are these studs?
I measured the stock ones after I got them out. Total length = 2" The ARP ones that I got (P#100-7708) are 2 3/4" long.
Much better but with a 5/16'th spacer and Welds they are about 1/2" away from being legal. If the dealer or LPE ones are longer than 2 3/4" (total stud length) I need to know!!
Thanks!
Mark

Re: Changing Out To Longer Front Wheel Studs
Confirmed with ARP that these are the longest 12mm's they have.
Looks like the only options are the dealer (LPE) studs if longer or 7/16. Has anyone replaced the 12mm with 7/16 in the front hub - do they work?? If so, length part numbers??
Thanks guys!
Mark

Re: Changing Out To Longer Front Wheel Studs
I'm waiting for the longer GM studs to come in as I write this. I could swear I saw something saying that these are 3 1/2" long.
