Default Small update on the transformation of 1BADTA

Some update pictures on how the car is starting to come along .......

From rear looking forward:

From side looking towards drivers door:

From front looking towards rear - door panels are sitting on top of rear fenders:

Lot's of work to go and when the main frame rails are in and the 4 link, I will take some more pictures. With that and the coil over front suspension, it ought to look wild! :-)

I'll keep updating the final transformation of the beast as info is available!

Correct a mundo! Full tube chassis with coil front suspension and 4 link rear. It's gonna be sitting on the ground when it is done. You should see the 33"x16" slicks that are going under it!! They measure like 38" across each tire! Freakin wild, can't wait to pilot it - kinda scared - kinda extreme anticipation!

WOW!!
What do you estimate the final curb weight to be?
How much do you think everything is going to cost?
Cheers,
Chris

Estimated curb weight is right at 2400lbs with the motor and w/o my butt in it! With any luck, I'm gonna go on a diet and get myself down to a driver weight of 165lbs. Right now I'm at 183lbs and feeling rather portly!

The motor is a very strong 509ci motor with Dart heads, etc. etc. and came out of a tube chassis 2001 Corvette. Not sure of the exact builder of the motor as that car was picked up turnkey for $34k at the beginning of the year. My two sponsors jointly own the vette and are helping me out considerably on the buildup of the car. Corvette Connection here in Ft. Myers, FL is doing 99% of the work, chassis and funny car cage is being fabricated by Holtz Welding Fabrication and the engine is courtesy of a very discounted price from Breathless Performance Products out of Dania, FL. The chassis is running $13k with additional $$ for Aerospace brakes and some Chassis Engineering items like "Eliminator X" rear wing, parachute hardware and wheelie bars. Not sure where the Lexan is coming from yet, but the hood, windshield scoop and rear deck are coming from Hairy Glass in Jacksonville, FL maker of a ton of fiberglass race car bodies and parts.

I am currently estimating that the final cost will be around $30k total, that's turnkey running down the strip making mid to low 8 passes with new paint, etc. A far cry from a similar car I just saw in National Dragster for like $52K or $58K as only a roller. Take that car and add the motor ($15-25k) and powerglide ($3-6k) and you're at $70-89k, so for about half of that I'm there. I didn't figure the original street price of the car at $25k (bought used with 13k miles, now at 29k miles) into the equation since I kinda "had" the car and have sold a lot of parts off it to fund the project. Things like my head/cam kit, Yank tranny and Strange 12 bolt have really gotten me about 50% paid on the chassis. The rest of the $$ is paid by my business and a big "Lamination Station Racing" will be painted on the doors when the car is finished along with my major sponsors on the rear fenders that have given me major discounts on parts or labor. Trying to get someone to give me a deal on the paint right now in exchange for a spot on the car. All the racing expenses of next year will be written off as advertising expenses along with sponsor help so once the big chunk is finished, the "keep me racing" money will come from sponsors that we hope to put together with some wins at local tracks in Florida. We plan on starting out hitting about 50% of the statewide $5000/$10,000 to win 3 day and 2 day races at Moroso (West Palm Beach), Bradenton, Orlando and Gainesville during 2003. Plans are to get the car to Kentucky for the F-Body deal in 2003 also. If nothing else, I will get practice for myself and exposure for my sponsors and then plan for a full year in 2004.

I will post more when available!

John: email me and I will get you my phone number to call when you get in town.

Let me tell ya though, it's tough looking at it right now in it's current state, knowing what it used to look like:

Only thing that keeps me sane is knowing what it'll become!:

Headlights will be functional as I have the first set of Breathless Performance Products non-flipup headlights and am required to show them off at any event or location that the car is required to be at. Taillights will be functional only in the fact that they will light when we turn on a switch, more for show than go and also a night requirement to have a light on the back at all events.

Car will not be remotely close to street legal and the motor will not take anything more than a burnout, pass and possibly idling back to the pits - we may be towing it dependant on temperature readings.

So to answer your question - no street use for the car, the only time it will see the pavement is at the track or at my house for a wash!
