500 miles enough for 1st 1/4 blasts?
Is 500 miles enough break-in time for first trip to the track? I`ve heard these LS1`s really wake up once they have some miles on the odo but I`m just worried about doing some internal harm. Can you guys chime in and give me the yea or nay? Also throw in any words of wisdom you can think of as this is my first LS1 (or alum. block motor for that matter)and am a little concerned about proper break-in. Also, did anyone confirm that our cars have syn. oil from the factory or what? The reason I ask is because I was thinking that I would at least change the filter before hitting the track and just replace the oil lost by doig so. But I don`t want to mix syn. and convent. oils. (why exactly I have no clue. )Just being paranoid I guess!? Thanks for any help.

I made my first passes at 700 miles. Over 800 passes and 44k and all is good. I changed my oil at 500 miles and have run Mobil 5w30 every 3k since. IMO your ready to rock!! Have fun , these cars are bad-***!

You should be fineto run it at 500. Just make sure you vary your RPMs and get on it a little a few times before you go all out. I'd wait until about 1000 miles then just change the oil, actually that is what I did. I don't think there is any need to mess with the filter before then. You should be fine, you're just being protective of your new baby. Nothin' wrong with that.

It is fine to run at the track with 1 mile on the car, would be kinda hard to do, though. IMO, these cars run stronger and last longer if they are driven like they are supposed to be driven.

I was racing with 300 miles on my car. All good 30k miles later.

Seems to me that people who beat their car in from the get-go, have faster running cars.
I am not just pulling this out of my *** either, I have actually done numerous polls on this

Give it 500 miles, and then drive it like you stole it....
Cars that have been run hard from the beginning seem to run faster in the long run. I beat the **** outta my car from brand new, and I have never lost to an LS1 with similar mods.

Could not agree more LIL SS. Sometimes I merge on a little TOO fast! How about that oil question (syn. or conven. from the factory)? Anyone find out? And thanks for the responses guys.

The later build cars have mobil 1. I think I saw somewhere around OCT on??? If it was built after last fall I would say definitely mobil 1 is in it. They said it on SLP site..

Re: 500 miles enough for 1st 1/4 blasts?
i have to agree with the breakin thing. i had one and didnt beat on it for 800 miles. it was pretty fast, but my current one is about 2+tenths quicker and i started to beat on it about 200 miles.
