Default 11.0......grrrrr!

I know you're tired of hearing about new bests everytime I've run lately "big $hit eating grin" but.... Well I just did get one pass before it started pouring down rain at the season opener at the Southern Oregon Dragway in Medford, OR. I was told the track wasn't prepped at all, no VHT, nuttin'. I set my goal for 11.3X considering the track, the history I've had there, and the weather. The track sits at 1400ft. and the conditions were 29.79 53.6 Deg 37.4 Dew 54% Hum. Corrected DA was 1624.

I kid you not, 5 minutes before the track was canceled for rain, I made my one and only pass.

60' 1.496 Felt DAMN Good!
330' 4.460
1/8 7.003 Darn almost a 6.XX
MPH 97.13
1/4 11.026 Dope!
MPH 120.58

Damn did that run feel good!!!! The only mod I made since bakersfield was the SPIDERMAN ANTENNA MOD!...probably kept me out of the 10's. And he even lived to tell about it....web fingers. LOL. Also, I hit the 2-3 rev limiter because I decided to try shifting the 2-3 manually like somebody suggested. From now on it's in 3/D and staying there. They were all new bests except the 1/4 MPH which is obviously down from the weather & rev limiter tag. I can't expain how happy I am to finally have it pretty well dialed for the home town crowd. I've run up here for 3 years without a solid pass, clutch this, tranny that, never hooking.....but times are changing and I thank GOD for that. Except for my friend blowing out a tire on the way home, it was a great trip...and even in my neck of the woods. I had to change a tire in the pouring down rain, barely off the freeway, and it wasn't even mine. Can't I ever wait for next friday though.....

And boy did I get bombarded with questions after that pass. Nitrous this, blower that, lets see under the hood, in the trunk etc. Jaws dropped when I said it was a BONE STOCK GM4L60E, REAR, and Shortblock. And I had to plug the "Jantzer Performance Heads" . You wouldn't think 270cfm Stage I heads could run so well and a first generation LS1 cam (MMS by the way) with only .535 lift and comp 981 110lb springs.

Terry, above is that 1/8th you're shooting for. Sorry to make it a little tougher for you.

THE LS1 RULES!

10's Next Friday??? God Willing.

That is a fantastic run. The 60' is unbelievable. Anyway, a big congratulations and I know it has to be a great feeling running such a fast time. By the way, how did you shift, did you start off in second gear and hold it there, or did you shift manually between the gears to obtain such a fast time. I am asking because I have a
a4 with H/
C combo and I have run mine in overdrive and mustard a few eleven's. Would you please explain your driving technique in detail and I will try it please. Again, sensational run and now go get that 10. I will try spiderman antenna mod myself if I can run a time like that.

Thanks very much for sharing the information. I am definitely going to try your technique. Sounds like it is very effective to me. I hope you break the 10's next go around and post that time.

I don't know if it was the Spiderman Mod or just a little more "Magic" in the air.

I use 2nd for my burnout, hold it until smoke boils, and drive through the burnout. Stage and leave it in 3rd the entire pass. If you try to shift manually, the trans lags behind and you'll hit the rev limiter for sure. Atleast in my stock 4L60E you will.

I was simply AMAZED to pull that 60' at our track without any prep. I am REALLY impressed with the Hoosier 26X11.5X15 QTP's. 1.3X 60's are that much closer.

I got the pass on video, but because of the conditions and lighting it didn't come out very good. Did I mention it pulled BOTH front wheels on that pass, and left extremely level again. I have the Hal's set at 2 all around and 20lbs in the RR airbag.

Awesome run Scott! I think its time to put a real head/cam setup on your car and show these Texas boys how its done. 10.5 NA on the stock shortblock would be bad-***.

I'll see what I can do about that 7.0 1/8th mile time Thursday.

But why change now, when I'm no where near dialed in/maxed where I'm at. I haven't even touched the MAF translator and I'm still running a stock MAF. And I haven't decided what to do for my next set of heads/cam. I've got a few slick tricks up my sleave and I think they're worth a try before I try any tried/true parts/combo's.

I think I will have to plan a trip to Texas towards the end of the year. I want to find out first hand what the tracks/people are like down there.

Not too long ago, 10's was distant and most probably thought it was rediculous to set that as my goal. Now it's 10.50's and it seems very doable. Go figure.

Good Luck at Irwindale. It'll take a good 1.4 60ft. and it's tough to do especially without alot of weight reduction. But if you get the weather & prep you can do it.

PAIN:

Thanks buddy. I'm going to start on the Carbon Fiber T-tops soon. I'll keep you updated on the progress.

PlumCrazyRob:

I went through several clutches and the way the suspension was setup it never wanted to hook. Then last year I switched to the auto and still had problems. Tranny harness was shot and I was stuck in 3rd. I was really tired of the car....and quit driving it/working on it for months. But now all the hard work is finally paying off.

Yeah, I remember reading about all that. I realize you went through a lot more than most to get to what you're running now

I'm not doing too bad for the Eibach Prokit springs. Maybe there's something to it. The key is to get the car to launch straight, I've got that part figured out. There is a time and place to spend $$$ on horsepower, but a properly setup suspension is far more important. That's where I have been concentrating and it's paying big dividends.

The secret is a good hooking track. I think with a bit more power 1.4s will be doable for me at Irwindale.

Wow, that gives me more than enough hope. Great job and even greater car!

What kind of converter are you running and with which tire?

Terry,

According to everyone else, bakersfield was pretty bad, but I still cut a 1.53, 1.54, and a couple higher 1.5's and I was spinning. At the time I thought the track must have been OK prep wise for ME to run good short times...the car always had problems in the past. But I did tweak some things that obviously helped.

But after I went out Friday night at our local track, absolutely NO prep, first event of the year, behind some street tired cars and cut a 1.49 60ft. I know the car is setup well. And also that bakersfield was pathetic. I mean it was sprinkling on and off and poured 5 minutes after my run...that's how bad the conditions were.

Moral of the story is to get the car hooking, worry less about power, and good things will come.

2000LS1Z28:

I'm running the YankTP4400...what else is there? I'm running 26X11.5X15 Hoosier QTP DOT tires. I will upgrade to a full slick eventually, but these are doing pretty well right now so I'll ride them out. I appreciate the comments and yes work with your car, focus on setting it up, and it'll reward you with good times. It doesn't take high dollar suspension parts either. If you have any questions or need any help just ask.

It is quite obivous that you have your suspension down since you are on the verge of 10's. If don't mind, would explain everything you did suspension wise and what you did to the car to keep it straight off the line ? I know you have Hals and RR air bag, the tires, and eiback springs--but would you please explain in detail everything you did---I would to work on my suspension for better 60' times. Your assistance and sharing of knowledge will be highly appreicated. Kent.

Temps should be in the high 50s and I hope to have a Meziere and a new "ram air" setup on the car before then. I'll be looking to cut another 1.53 60' like I did at Irwindale. Might get a low 11.
