Default some new times w/ cam and converter

I was able to run the car today at Texas Motorplex, but it sucked. They thought the wind was blowing too hard to run the 1/4, so they cut it down to 1/8-mile racing! The conditions were 88 degrees, 29.78 pressure, and 61% humidity. This calculates to a D.A. of 3,219' when using this calculator. FWIW, when I ran my 12.04 @ 111 MPH ( 7.64 @ 89 MPH in the 1/8) the D.A. calculated to -10' D.A. That gives you a good idea as to why the car isn't quicker.
I made two passes and left. It wasn't worth sticking around.

RT: .569
60': 1.649
330': 4.824
1/8: 7.543
MPH: 90.04

The 60' above was launching from 2,000 RPM. I launched from 2,800 on the first pass, and it netted a 1.650 60'. The car was damn consistent considering it ran a 7.550 on the first pass. The car tipped the scales at 3,560# w/ the 4-pt. rollbar in place. I'm still trying to get over to Wolfe to have the 5th point installed. I won't be able to run the car down the 1/4 until the Super Chevy Show at TX Motorplex May 17-19. I'm going to pull a little weight out of the car, and I expect it to tip the scales right at 3,500# w/ me in it for the SCS. The conditions couldn't have been much worse; I was pleased to still run .1 quicker and gain 1 full MPH in the 1/8th with the air being so crappy. Had I been able to run the car in the 1/4, I would've expected high 11.8's/low 11.9's today. It would've been just enough to get me kicked out. The tech guy asked what I needed a bar for, and I told him it was for when I decided to make the car faster. I guess he was expecting some stellar 13-second passes.
I'm pleased with the setup. I picked up 50 RWHP on the dyno with the cam and converter swap, and the car ran .1 quicker in the 1/8-mile with the D.A. exceeding 3,200'. We'll see what the setup is good for in some good air next fall. All I care about at this point is consistency for brackets, and it doesn't have any problems with that!

Yeah, this front really killed the pressure, and it didn't move out fast enough to get it back up in time. Weather and time providing, I'm going to take the car to Kennedale on Wednesday to make some more 1/8-mile passes. This way I'll be able to try out a bunch of different launch techniques, along with suspension setups.
The car wasn't spinning any; both launches were with full traction. It's just the crappy weather and piggish weight that kept it from leaving like it should. Had I still been running the Vig 3200, there's no doubt that the car would've cut 60' times in the 1.7x range.
You're not lying that it's getting too hot! The conditions today are as bad as I'd personally want to race in, and they'll get much worse this summer. Super Chevy will most likely be unbearable. Last year it was 96 degrees with 65% humidity. I need to get a damn 24' enclosed trailer w/ an a/c.

Nice times Trevor for the crappy conditions! All our good air is gone too. I finally am making more power and have 4.56s/28" Hoosiers going on the car this week. Too bad it is 90* here in Baton Rouge. Oh well, it will be fun setting the car up to 60'.

If you do get a 24' eclosed trailer w/ AC, I think I'll be making a trip to TX.

Congrats on the new best.

BTW, are you still running the 10-bolt?

It'll be next year at the earliest if I bought an enclosed. It seems that we're a day late and a dollar short on getting our cars setup. Is it October yet?

Pat - Yep, I'm still running the 10-bolt and plan on keeping it. I spent the big cash on a Strange 12-bolt for my T/A, only to have the spider gears break on me. I figure I can tear up a 10-bolt a lot cheaper than I can a 12-bolt. Mine is a little noisy w/ the 3.73's and has been since they were installed, but knock on wood, it's held up just fine. Then again, I haven't really stressed it IMO with my 1.6 60' times. With as much racing as I do, I'm probably going to replace the carrier once a year. $99 can buy a take-out unit from SLP, and it'll be a good time to inspect everything and replace the bearings.

I am sure with your past performance and excellent recommendations on the forum, you will achieve the times and ET's. With the additional 50 HP, your driving skills, and excellent weather conditions, I know new ET's are coming and I looking forward to you posting these new times. Bests wishes in your quest.

Nice to know you gained in the heat heh Thats right on with what im pulling in this heat the last couple of weeks at RRR. My 60fts. are a tad slower,1.68-1.66 range. Here is my run down of the 11.88s i have been pulling in the same weather conditions. 330 4.85,1/8th 7.55@90.70,1000ft. 9.89. You have high 11.80s on those runs.

The weather must have been SUCK!! to set a new best in this car and still get sooo frustrated that you leave the track. Amarillo is going to have some night racing starting next month and we'll probably have some evenings where the temps get down to 50. OF course we are still at 3600 ft so it might not help much but you have a place to stay if you make the road trip.

I got my engine out of the car all by myself this weekend and will start the P&P on the heads and ordering new parts this next week. I am going round and round about what cam to get and might call you in the next few weeks to get your imput.
Good luck with the setup!
Eric

Thanks for the kind words guys; I appreciate it.

Mike - Yeah, us Southerners lost our cool temps a LONG time ago! It's going to be in the low 90's tomorrow and Wednesday here in DFW. It makes me look forward to next fall for sure!

Scott - After looking at my old timeslips, I was guesstimating high 11.80's/low 11.90's, so thanks for verifying it for me. I'm going to get some weight out of the car for the upcoming SCS. If the weather is the same, I hope to nail down some low 11.80's. Do ya have any plans to go?

Coach - That would kick *** if your car was done by then! I want to see your car fly, and you'll definitely have the track prep for the SCS! They really spray the track down for the nitro coupes. Keep me posted, and let me know if you are going to get the car back in time.

Eric - Between the altitude and lack of track prep at your local track, I wouldn't stand a chance. I just made some time-only passes and called it a day. I'm not a big fan of 1/8-mile racing. Let me know how the setup comes together.

Tommy - I'm glad to hear that you finally have a working car again! It's been a while for ya. I don't know when I will be back in Lubbock with the car, but we'll definitely have to line 'em up. Let me know how the heads/cam install goes!
