Heater core removal for !weight

Heater core removal for !weight
first off im doing it cause i dont drive it in the winter.. i will be removing the passenger side air bag as well.
my questions are:
1) during removal will it affect anything dealing with the AC?
2) other than the heater core itself anything else heater related to be removed? (like the wiring to the control bezel?
3) for those who have done this, how much was weight was removed and does it make sparl plug and valve spring changes alot easier? i would imagine so <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> )
im looking at my haynes manual and it looks fairly simple to remove and mentions discharging the AC but i dont see why? if i need to put it back in it looks fairly simple.

Interested in this also. My motor is currently out and since I've already pitched A/C, ABS, AIR, PS, EGR, etc I guess the heater core is next but only for a pretty good weight savings (40lbs+).

as far as the AC goes, its gone <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
i removed the condensor, accumulator, and the compressor along with the belt which is no longer needed. and the lines that run back to the black box (WHAT IS IT?) am i suppose to remove this black box and how? is it the receiver-dryer thing ur talking about? the heater core is behind the glove compartment right? so that shouldnt be it or is it?

I think that black box is the evaporator which I haven't removed yet. Might be a project for this weekend.
