Launching with an aluminum flywheel and slicks on an M6....advice????
After getting my aluminum flywheel in the car obviously doens't bolt off the line like it used to..that and going from 4.10's to 3.73 didn't help either
I was thinking about trying this method:
Rev to about 4K at the line......a split second before I launch punch it, then slip the clutch and prey I don't bog or break something (tranny).
I have a McLeod Single disk clutch, Hoosier DOT slicks, carbon fiber d/s and moser 12 bolt w/ 33 spline and 3.73 gears.
Anyone else have a better suggestion???

Good luck, it is tricky. My car was hot or miss with it. I had best results slipping it off the line fwiw. You will notice the car will have a tendency to fall on it's face if you let out just a little bit.
With 4.10s, BFG DRs, I launched at ~3500 rpms. I had a Hays 15lb aluminum FW.
Since you are on slicks, and if the track you go to is well prepped, the car will most likely bog. Compared to running a steel FW you should be able to launch at higher rpms with the AL. FW. given similar track prep.

why oh why did you put in that aluminum flywheel!!!!
all i could say to you is good luck! practice different techniques till you fry the clutch, then switch back to the steel flywheel
seriously , with the alu. flywheel it's hit or miss, you either bog or spin, there is no perfect launch. if it hooks and launches good off the line , it will soon fall on it's face and bog ( not enough enertia in the flywheel). so you rev it up a bit the next time , and it spins !!! it drove me mad!
on the positive side your engine is going to rev up sooo quick!
may the clutch gods be with you!

If I was more concerned about track racing I'd have kept the 4.10 gears and the stock flywheel.

Wish I had read this post before May 11 at Cecil....I pretty much fried the clutch on my last run...launched great but as soon as I hit 2nd I felt it slip and knew it was smoked...it slipped all the way until about 3/4 of the track then it hooked up again. Added more than a second to my time
So do you guys recommend the steel flywheel???
I was also thinking about the Ram 6130 too.
Essentially the engine is stock but I do hope to add a Moser 12 bolt with 3.73's later on.

Re: Launching with an aluminum flywheel and slicks on an M6....advice????
I had the lightweight billet SLP flywheel and it was much the same problem. Sapped too much hp at launch. Freeway/high rpm running was great, but launching sucked. Swapped back to the stock steel. Much better/stronger launches (until the Z06 clutch fried!- Took all of a dozen launches.)

I figure If I'm gonna be throwing 600+rwhp at an aluminum flywheel with 4.11's off the line there shouldn't be a problem.
