Default Setting Goals...then the road to accomplishing them????

Alright, well as you can see by my other post, i've set a goal to run a 10 second cam only pass. So now that's the easiest part. Now comes the hard part. Actually getting there.

So how do you guys get to where you want to be. I know as most people do, that it's all in the combination. But how do you go about deciding what that combination should be. Basically, I'm asking in which order do you go about picking parts to get you to your goal?

Cam first? Converter first? Gearing/Tire size first?

For me, i know I need a pretty stout cam. One that's gonna be in the upper rpm range. So then do I match the converter to that rpm range? but then if i got that taken care of, how do you go about picking gears and then tires? I know it'd be an E.T. Drag or a Hoosier slick. but width? dimension?

Obviously the first small goal to accomplish is to get all the bolt ons taken care of. That step is in process. I am aiming for a goal of high 11.3's-11.5's for a BOLT-ON car. Then maybe with some more weight reduction and the cam, hopefully i'll hit the number.

So any advice on how to go about picking combinations? I'm not really looking for cam specs or converter choices, just general help in the process I should take. Thanks!

Chris

When I bought my new 99 SS A4, I wanted to drag the car, but did not know the first item about drag racing, but I have always enjoy fast cars. Anyway, I read an article in an magazine about Son of Sam's camaro and how it ran 11.4. The article explained ever detail and mod that was done to the car. I basically model my automatic-what Son of Sam did to their 6 spd car. My best time is 11.72 and hopefully I will reached his time on my car soon. If your goal of an ET has already been achieved, then it only makes sense to see how goal was accomphlist and modify your car accordingly. Study other fast cars on the forum and ask questions on anything. This is what I did, just some insight and hope I help.

IMO i think it depends on how good your FACTORY heads are.

they aren't all machined exactly the same as we all know and some are better than others....thats why so many pick up so much hp with heads/cam and others dont

for instance.....roy. i believe his heads from the factory will flow great numbers and he wouldn't see a huge gain from a heads/cam

So just hope you have a good pair of heads, take weight out of the car, put in a good gear/tire/converter and all the bolt ons and pray to the hp gods

TP4400, 4.10's, 28" slicks if you want...26's if your brave, GTP 226/591/112 cam or similar size/grind, HAL's, LCA's, skinnies, cage (LIGHT), WEIGHT REDUCTION, etc....

thats a start. its the gears/tire height that you should play with

now i guess i can get into talking cam specs since you guys started it

would i be better off going w/ the 114LSA because of needing to run up higher in the RPM band?

Chris

PS-moderators, if this gets to the point it should be in internal engine, please move it. thanks.

GTP has a 226/236 514/514 114 also. it make pretty good power.
