Does anyone know what these cars layed down to the rear wheels, many consider these faster then the LS1s stock for stock. I'm just curious.

Im pretty sure that the Turbo T/A will take an LS1 stock for stock...

Yeah, as rare as they are, you may never get to race a purely stock one, but if you do, look out. A basically GN motor with upgraded exhaust and fuel systems=problems for the LS1. Then again, I'm somewhat biased, as I spent 8 years or so in the GN scene, so take that as you will. I still say Turbo TA wins it. Esp. modded. :hail:

It was consertivelty rated at...get this... 250!
Factory was mid 13's depending on driver...saw a 12.99 on a claimed stock one. 8ok miles on a stock one I know is 13.8-14.2 as a good friend had a rather worn one. A few mods and the E/T's really decrease.

Awesome cars, 30K back in 1989!

I thought they also had better heads than the GN's too

I had read somewhere that they actually had different heads because the heads on the GN would not fit in the engine bay. They claimed that it was too narrow. With all of the manifolds and turbo stuff I wouldn't doubt it. I had an 84 TA and the headers were pretty tight. I also heard that the heads on the GN were a little better. But I could be wrong.

A guy that owned one told me the heads were actually pontiac heads, and they flowed better then the GN's

I dynoed a stock TTA with only a few thousand miles on it. It put down-

243rwhp

312rwtq

With just a chip (not sure by who) it did-

278rwhp

379rwtq

They used front wheel drive cylinder heads because of the narrow engine bay.

INTMD8 has the correct numbers. I recently put my driver on the rollers, my bud with a Z06 wanted to see what it would do - 276rwhp, 378rwtq at 17psi and only 3800RPM (slightly bigger turbo than stock). I had to get out of it due to the motor shaking wildly. Needless to say, I need new motor mounts and my bud was shocked. He put down 350/340...:D

Wow I expected more, especially if the majority of people think they would take an LS1 stock for stock

They are not pontiac heads, just a different design to fit under the hood of the TTA. Lots of parts were different...Australian 9 bolt rear (yes 9 bolt, not inch)... upgraded 220 4r tranny with springs stiffet than most B and M kits...and so on.... just a downpipe upgrade can add 30+ hp, chips good for some punch and the Alky does wonders...spent time in one this weekend.

Those cars are a bit lighter than the LS1's. I have an 84 TA and it was only like 3300 in full factory trim.

They aren't that much lighter, mine was 3550 with me in it. My 96 WS6 was 3650 with me in it. My TTA also had the Lexan T-Tops which weigh a good bit lighter than the glass ones.

I had mine dynoed once. Mods were: Thrasher 92 chip, 160 thermo, 8" K&N, and cat pipe. 318rwhp and 455rwtq with the converter locked. It was good enough to run 12.1@111 on Nittos.

When I bought it, it ran 13.0@104-105. Mods at that time were Red 93 chip, 160 thermo, and K&N. It came with a ATR Pitbull chip but was way too agressive for 93 octane.
