Default Cam for a stocker A4

Would that be bad on an A4 with a 3500 stall and 2.4 str, on an otherwise stock engine, with stock tranny and 2.73s out back?

Not at all. The only really important thing you need is the converter before you swap cams/springs. Stock tranny should be up to the task.

--->Though you will want headers/tuning to live up to potential.

I don't think I understand what you're asking? Would the kit be bad to put on your car, or were you thinking of any cam grind in particular?

I was asking if putting that cam in my car would be bad for it on an A4 with a stall that's otherwise stock. You know, would I need anything else there that isn't listed to run it? What about computer programming?

Programming is always a help with an A4. W/O programming, you might have idle and lock-up issues and for sure you can't raise your shift points to take advantage of the high end power. You also can't tune your A/F. Keep the cam on the small side (e.g. Thunder 220 on a 114) and you may get by.

You might consider doing headers first. Rarely do they need tuning (unless you disconnect certain equipment ) and a stock exhaust restricts your cam's potential.

Overall, a tuning tool is really nice with an A4 becuase of being able to change your shift points & lock-up.

I just bought a TR "Old Man" cam, and they tell me it should require no tuning for my A4. I'll have it back on Saturday, so I'll let you know how it goes. I looked around for MONTHS apon months, apon months before I settled on this one. JRP did a desktop dyno on the Old Man vs. the TR 220/220, and they were almost identical until 4k when the Oldman started to pull ahead. I don't have a TC either. They tell me that a TR 224 on a 114 can be computer tuned to behave itself on a stock stall'ed A4. Hope this helps. Also, another thing to think about, if you're not going to be changing your rev limiter, and you're going w/ a small cam, they tell me you can skip the titanium retainers. They are more for high reving, or huge cam numbers. Save yourself a hundred bucks.
