I was looking on ebay and he said he bought some stuff somewhere and got a hypertech for an ls1 but he doesnt have an ls1 and therefore doesnt know if it works? Does it come on w/o being plugged into the car? is there anyway to know w/o having a car to plug into?

The only way to tell if a Hypertech is married to another vehicle is to plug it into a vehicle and see if it works. It gets it's power from the ALDL plug. Also, they are year specific.
