Unhappy Vig3200 is dead

Well, after about 80,000 miles on my trusty, dependable Vig3200 ... it has finally gone to converter heaven. I had bought this converter 2 years ago used with about 2600 miles, it has netted my SS with a best of 12.44 and a 1.68 60' (full interior, 3460 lbs). This is one of the best street converters out there, well proven for a long time. It recently started acting up, not locking properly, tranny slipping ... etc. So I had my work (B&M) take it apart. Take a look at the pics, the bearing failed and pushed up against the lock-up clutch ... which caused the converter to over heat ... metal fragments breaking off ... taking out my transmission as well. When Power Chevy took it out, they let the car sit for over 2 hours and the converter was still well over 200 degrees! It served me well, not the way a good converter should go. Well, now I have a new converter in there, a TCI 4400. This thing pulls hard, much better than my Vig3200, although normal (for me) city driving it stays at 3000 rpms and you can't even tell it is shifting. The shift extensions are about 5300 rpms and it shifts at ~6300. My SS should be posting new numbers here soon. Can't wait for my HPTuners software to arrive to squeeze even more power out of it.

Did you have any warning, or did it just go out all at once?

80,000 miles on a performance part is not too terrible, but it does suck that it took out your tranny too.

It started acting up about three weeks prior to it failing. I think I got well over my $$$ worth out of this Vig3200. I would definately recommend it for this kind of application though. It failed from abuse, hard launches, daily driving, racing it every weekend at the track.
