Default go buy hptuners/ls1edit or just use the $500 to get a dyno tune?

What would be the best choice for me right now, go buy hptuners/ls1edit(any recommendations which is better?) and tune my car myself(even though i have no idea what i'll be doing ) or just go get a dyno tune? I dont think i'll be adding any more mods to my car untill next summer, probably a cam. Which way would i get the best results/value for my money?

ps. my dad is a mechanic so he'll be helping me with the tune if i bought it myself.

HP Tuners is better

if you are going to do 1 setup and that's it... no tweaking then a single dyno tune is prolly better

If you are going to be changing this around, or want to constantly tweak the tune then an editor is what you want...

Trick w/the editor is it takes time to learn how to use and get things dialed in... whereas it should pretty well be dialed in after a single dyno tune

Editor -- steeper learning curve, more trial and error, takes long to get tune locked in but you can tweak whenever you want and change things on a whim

Dyno tune -- car should be pretty well dialed in when done, but if you make any changes you won't be able to tweak it and will have to pay to have the tune modified again.

ok, another questions, someone who has a better knowledge of tuning could send me a templete tuning binary file via e-mail and i could load it up through hptuners so i have atleast a starting point right?

if you find somebody who will give their knowledge away, then you could do that.

at this time, none of the ls1 products have "staring points" files that come with them

Your starting point could be, and probably should be
the stock tune (?) currently in your PCM. Where you
go from there really depends on what you've done
mechanically to the car. You should be able to get
somebody off the 'boards to give you sample tune
files or advice, etc. for particular things, if you
don't find what you want on the "repository" sites
(which are just starting to accumulate .bins for the
HPTuners S/W).

Definately tune it yourself. 9 times out of 10 if you pay for a dyno tune, they'll lock your PCM. Not to mention some tuners charge for a re-tune after mods.
