Default Grinding problem??

Id like to know whats going on. I went to the local track and discovered a problem. When I launch the car it grinds for a good 2 seconds and when the car shifts into 2nd gear it grinds as well. More or less its a metal on metal sound. But thats the only time it does this. Anyone know what might be causing this? I have reason to believe thats why my best 60' was a 2.379. Just recently I had my u-joints replaced and a weak transmission joint was replaced as well. Could this still be the problem?

my **** grinds the heck out of 2nd to 3rd when straight shifting and from 4-3 downshifting. I have no idea what it is but maybe the syncro? (no idea what that is but heard someone say thats what it may be?
