Installed a new center section in my buddies TA this weekend. Had a chance to weigh the two. 1st was a Strange Nodular Iron center section with a Detroit Locker. It came in at 84 lbs. Next was a Strange Aluminum center section with a steel spool. It came in at 56 lbs. So a 28 lb savings between the two.

And alot of that is rotational too.

Good info. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />

I wish I had gone with the aluminum center section when I did mine, since it wouldn't have really changed the price any at the time... Oh well...

George,

The Aluminum Center becomes marginal choice in a Low10/Hi9 second car. This isn't to say guys haven't gone much faster then that on one.... Just the norm.

Beyond that I'd opt for a Thru-Bolt Case. I know in the standard cases the Iron and Alum are about the same price, but a Thru-Bolt case from Strange, MW, or Aerospace will set ya back around the $500 range.

Aerospace Thru-Bolt on the waaay! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />

How much heavier is a ford 9" with alum chunk/spool VS. a Moser 12 bolt with spool?
