On my car I think there's a sub up under the dash
(or maybe there's one per channel?). At least, I
can feel the bass with my right foot sometimes.

Car manuals are generic arent they? Unless all of the cars come with 10 speakers you may not have all 10.

well the manual specificly states there is 10 on the t-top cars (which I have) and 8 in convertables...

one of my friends suggested they were in the seat? really hard to tell without tearing the interior apart

Here we go..
2 in each door (speaker and tweeter)
one in panel next to each rear seat ("subs")
2 in each side of truck area (speaker and tweeter)

Lets add it up...
4 door speakers
2 "subs"
4 trunk speakers
------
10 speakers total

When you remove the spare tire panel, you will see that there are indeed two speaker behind that grill.

This is true of Firebirds with the 500Watt Monsoon system. Other configurations (expecially Camaros) are different.

In my car there is only one speaker under the spare tire panel. I believe there are two on the other side though. I have 9 speakers.

That is weird.
To my knowledge, it was either 6,8, or 10 speakers. No odd numbers. I could be wrong though.

I think they just forgot to put two in there at the factory. Or maybe the guy was lazy or something. There is a place for a second speaker, but it was never installed. Anyways, I bought it brand new so I know it wasn't the previous owner or something.

I think the tweeters in the Camaros are behind the same grill as the speaker instead of behind a separate grill, like the Firebirds.

Do you have the 200watt system or a convertable?
That would also explain the lower speaker count.
