Default found 98z at dealership

ok i found a 98 z28 black on black at a small car lot. a4, cloth, non-monsoon, t-top. the t-tops do not leak, and the interior is in perfect condition. the exterior is also very nice with the occasional scratch. there are also some riples/dings over the pass. side rear tire. it has 89k miles and they want 9,995 for it. this seems like a lot to me but what do you think? i also have a possible 5k trade in. let me know what i should do . thanks -Andy

I agree on the pass. For 10 grand, you can get a perfect, low mileage '98 or '99. If you can see repair work, you don't want that car.

Pricing depends on your area, but KBB shows retail being about $9.800 . You should expect *EXCELLENT* condition for that price, which by what you describe it isn't.

You're descibing a fair condition car, which the KBB private party value would be about $6,400.

It's a good thing you noticed the possible body damage. There's probably more to that story. There may be a CarFax history that says more, or they may have had damage from an accident repaired at a repair shop that doesn't report. Since you can still see that there was damage, it wasn't fixed by a good shop. From what I understand, if there wasn't a police report or an insurance claim, it may not show with CarFax. That could be anything, like the old owner was hit and the other guy agreed not to report it, so both owners went and had their damages repaired out of their own pockets.

Personally, I wouldn't consider that car. I'd hold out for a car that hasn't been damaged, and has all the good features (premium sound, leather interior, etc). For that price, that's what you should be paying for. Also besides looking for poor repair work, look for body panels that may have been moved/replaced, and damage from hard driving. My ex-girlfriend bought a '96 Camaro Z28 a few years back, and the transmission mount broke a couple months after she bought it, and it wasn't because of her driving. *I* drive really hard. She just drives kind of aggressively. She's in a 2000 Camaro SS now, and loves it. She wanted the extra power, and the 6 speed. Gotta love a women who likes fast cars.

well im pretty sure the ripples werent from a wreck because the body is straight and the carfax is clean, but i thought it might be body flex from not having subframes. supposedly the car was driven but older folks, so could it still get flex marks from not being driven hard?
