Default gear changing and shift points

i am gonna swap rear-gears, probably from my 2.73's to 3.23's or 3.42's - maybe even 3.73's(i am swapping because i could use a rear-end rebuild anyway and i don't like my long *** gearing- 1st till 50mph and 2nd till 90mph...)

i have a 98 a4 forumula. my question is- if i swap out to say 3.23's do i need a ls1 edit tune or hpp3 adjustment to make it shift correctly or the computer will compensate and shift at the normal 6k rpms point? how about with 3.42's or 3.73's? i would like to be able to put off the tune till i really need it down the road

also- if i do need a tune are there options like a trans computer from a 3.23 a4 car (i work at a junkyard and could get one cheap)..

thanks in advance.

Your speedo will be off by the same amount as the gear change. In other words, your PCM won't know the difference. It'll shift.

(Not a dumb question.)
