Fix one problem...gain another ;) New best anyway
went to cecil county to track test the MMS229 cam...
Well cut a 1.65 60-foot then noticed it noses over HARD at 6700-6800 rpm or so <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> Guess what...its running out of injector in a big way <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> Damn good thing I had race fuel in there or may have melted a piston or 2 <img border="0" alt="[Banging Head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" />
Anyway I still managed an 11.44 @ 121.8 mph <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
SVO 30# going in this week <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Damn it looks like the MMS cam did pretty damn good. I have been thinking of changing cams as well but I have a few goals for the T1 first <img border="0" alt="[judgement]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_judge.gif" />

I am thinking with some injectors, that 229 cam might not give up anything in the 1/4 compared to the 232. And give more driveability, but that word is against your religion right? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Brian, that doesn't surprise me. I had to go with the 30#'s for the same reason.
But I am surprised you didn't pick up on that when you dyno'd. Julio was able to tell right away that something was happening up top. When he looked at the duty cycle #'s, it was very clear the motor was starving for fuel at the high rpms.

Nice times!
Maybe because I am running slightly bigger injectors/pump than you guys I dont see this problem when I run 122-123mph? (98 pump and 98 injectors?)
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Chris

Chris, that very well could be. I was starting with the puny 2000 injectors. I forget which years came with which injectors, but I do know the 2000's were the smallest.

Re: Fix one problem...gain another ;) New best anyway
I knew thursday something was up on the dyno when my A/F starting tracking toward 13.5 after 600 rpm. I added fuel with edit with no change. I guess the cooler night last night (MORE O2) combined with the higher load on the car caused it to severely starve for fuel after 6700.
It literally layed over hard (like it stalled <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> )

So based on the weather last night...that probably would have been in the 7.2x range. since my car didn't lay over until top of 3rd its very possible it would've gone AT LEAST a 11.2 with the bigger cam..
Needless to say the big boy is going back in for now and injectors sometime this week <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Re: Fix one problem...gain another ;) New best anyway
chris, I have a walbro 255 LPH intank pump.
That reminds me...might be a good idea to do a fuel filter <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Re: Fix one problem...gain another ;) New best anyway
Chris and Brian, correct me if I'm wrong. I was always told that the stock fuel pump was adequate for stock cube H/C setups. Every time I thought about the Walbro, I was told that I didn't need it unless I was going to spray.

Onyxss you are right.
For the most part the stock pump can keep up to 450RWHP NA.
The 98s and 2001s have a stronger pump than the 99-00 cars. They also have larger injectors (~28.5 vs ~26 @LS1 FP)
I would throw a gauge on your car and see how low your pressure goes at WOT in second and third. Dropping to about 55psi is considered "normal" but you can also buy a regulator to keep it fixed at whatever psi you like. If you still get a drop after that, the pump isnt keeping up. With larger injectors you should be fine to ~480RWHP NA if you are getting enough voltage to the stock pump.
Cheers,
Chris
