Hi guys:
Ok..I got myself a Sears valve spring compressor, I guess this would be the conventional type that has two prongs that go on the bottom of the valve spring while it pushes down on the spring/retainer as it is compressed. My question is will this even work for removing the springs on the #7 & #8 cylinders? It doesn't seem like it will being that they're buried under that damn cowl...If not, please let me know so I can return it and get that one that More sells. I don't want to be that far in the install and not be able to get those 4 springs off of #7 & 8.

Very few spring compressors out there will work on the #7 and $8... I would go with either the More tool, the Vinci tool, or something like the Larry tool if you want to save some money.

I used the more tool on my swap and went along smood until I got to #8.damm 2hrs for that spring and finished it.It can be done just need alot of patience.

Whoa! 2 hours?! That's like 4 beers later and by that time I'd have to stop and continue the next day =)...Anyone out there swap those springs out pretty easily, please let me know what you used. Thanks!!!

i have the sears tool and it works just really tight and cramped under there.

Hmmm, Okay, thanks also Taspeed. I think I'll just open it up and stick it underneath the cowl to check what the clearance is like.

Larry's tool rules! They get those back springs like they are in the front

Larry's tool works very good. But the one Crane is selling that does both springs at one time is even nicer. Of course it is more than Larry's but cut install in less than half the time. Iv'e used one of the ones you bought and they don't work at all at least not for me! and the $15 NAPA tool works good but you risk the possibility of bending or breaking boltsif you don't buy a hardened steel bolt etc... And of course you will have to cut the handle off for the back cyclinders. Good luck!

the Moore tool sucks ***. Spent two hours as well on the #8. Not to mention that the first one I used split in half.
