Drag Racing Tech - Thunder Shootout... 57 days and counting down!!!!!!

I've had e-mails from some heavy hitters in the Pro Outlaw and Pro Stock classes and It looks like old rivalries are are getting heated up again especially in Pro Outlaw. Alot of the EFI Renigade cars are looking at making the trip south. Also it's looks like Modified Stock auto and manual classes are shaping up into some great racing.
Great news!!!!!! The track is going to have their regular Friday night bracket race and also let the Shootout cars test and tune and enter the bracket race if they want. We will also tech at the track. Look for the schedule at ThunderShootout.com
Fridat night would be a great time to do a little grudge racing.

I want to attend, but haven't made up my mind one way or the other yet... I don't know if I would try one of the classes or just bracket race. Modified Stock Auto seems like the logical class for my car, but I honestly don't know if I can find enough weight to make the car 3500lbs. or not.
That time of year looks to be pretty busy already race schedule-wise, and that's a heck of a tow for me...

Id really like to make this race but I have a feeling that I wont be able to.
Im still pretty far out and even when i get it done need license runs and more safety items which I have not purchased and will not have the $$ for before the race rolls around.
Not to say I wont find some extra $$ laying around between now and then which would help.
Im trying to make it.

PaiN is also making the trip. We are working on Raughammer. I figure a ton of Houston area guys will be there. This is THE event everyone has been gearing up for, this year.
Next season you need to have a 3500 lb big-motor class for the street cars with cubes. Not every 400+ci car is a gutted trailer queen

I'm steering myself towards the Pro Stock class .
I think the Modified Stock Automatic Transmission Class should have been <362ci like I had for NFRA. <400ci is going to make it a 372-393ci stroker class for sure. Any 350 what was .060 over is a rebuild but not a full on stroker.
I've been shooting for 3400 raceweight but I guess I will strip the car more and run collector mufflers.

Friday sounds like that will be the most fun. I can't weait to see some grudge races. Will the track be available Saturday night after the shootout for more grudge racing?
also, there are hotels all along the interstate between BR and Donaldsonville. Gonzales is about 30 minutes from the track and there are several hotels there right off of I-10

Registration is looking good and several more have come through in the past few days. I think we have over 40 people registered so far...not bad with still 2 months to go!
Remember, pre-registered cars that are pre-paid only will be allowed to move to the front of the line at the gate with no waiting.
Also, It doesn't look like the Corvette classes are filling out at all... we are going to try to gauge the interest in this for a week or so and make a decision at that point if there will be enough to keep these classes. If anyone knows of any Corvettes that are interested, please point them in the direction of www.thundershootout.com. (http://www.thundershootout.com.)

I have been pumped about this race ever since I found out about it! I'll be there, no doubt. I would like to get there in time to run some brackets Friday night as well, but we'll have to see when I can get out of town. WE NEED MORE ENTRIES FOR STREET STOCK AUTOMATIC! There are way too many cammed autos out there with stock heads to NOT have a good turnout in this class. Let's go people! This should be a pretty cut-throat class!

Apparently I was lookin' good while I was changing my tires. I think Sean was throwin' out the vibe to the women of the night.
LMAO!! I remember Mikey and I getting a few cat calls and whistles from a couple of the "ladies" .... they were hanging out of their window looking for a few good men. I can assure you that the local bars here do not feature Vanilla Ice or Paula Abdull wannabes.
BG was unreal!!

Trevor, I was doing nothing of the sort! . I had a real good time hangin with every body the night before. The trip was a real eye opener, you definatly find out who your real friends are when you get to confront them face to face. "HEY Dave, what's going on here,is my nipple getting bigger?, Oh never mind thats just the tip of the blade protruding from my chest " .

ROFL.... memories...
I met my husband at NFRA in BG. He told me that he also got flirted with by some of those "women of loose moral character" but luckily, he refused their magnetic charms long enough to fall for me instead
(collective "AWWWWW") Hey, who's making the gagging sound? Stop that

He doesn't take any crap off of me... well, not too much, anyway The fact he stands up to me is a major reason I married him. Who wants a doormat? Well, OK, you're right, most women want a doormat, but not me

LMAO! Mir, are you trying to get Sean drunk? I'm sure we won't be lacking any discussion topics once everyone arrives. Maybe we can all caravan to Baton Rouge on Friday, so long as you don't want to drive 85 MPH! I'll be in tow.

I would seriously consider this event if it weren't so far down south. That's a heck of a drive from Ohio, and then hotel costs, gas costs, racing costs, all just too much for me.
Would be nice if next year we could try to have events like this a little more "central" so more could have fun
Right now I count a little over 40 people. That's hardly enough for two classes, much less all the classes you are trying to fill. I can see what will likely happen. One bracket group and one group for the all out racing.
IMO, the event needs to be a little more convenient for racers, not sponsors, and less restrictive to attract more racers.
Just my 2 cents

Whether there is 40 or 400 people there it will still be a GREAT time...there is no doubt in my mind about that. I had my hotel and everything set for MMRA, but plans fell through at the last minute and couldn't make it. Even though turnout wasn't that great I still wish I could've been there. To race, meet knew people (and catch up with some old friends), learn some things, and most of all HAVE FUN! No matter where an event is held it will always be more covienent for some than for it is for others. Just find some friends, a bunch of walkie-talkie radio thingies and caravan down there! The trip down to BG and Bristol with a bunch of other Chicago/IN F-body owners was a blast!! Tiring, yes...but still fun!
I'm all signed up this Shootout and hotel is booked.
I can't wait to meet (and see again) more of you guys/gals. Only a 17.5 hour and 990 mile drive from the Land of Lincoln!!!
