Awesome night at the track, and another new best!
I decided to go out tonight for the monthly "street legal" racing night. Basically, you have to drive the car through the gate in legal trim, no trailers allowed.
I made a couple of passes on my hard-as-rocks 275/60/15 Grand Am el-cheapo radials just to see what I could muster. Best pass was a 11.10 @ 129.6mph. Pretty scary on the radials, though... The car kept wanting to get a little out of shape on the 1-2 shift (the only shift I have ) and on the top end. I swapped the slicks on, figuring the Friday night track prep would suck.
I made a few more time runs with the slicks, and was running 10.3's like it had been last time out. I decided to run in the "free" bracket race they have, since I haven't actually tried to go rounds in awhile. I didn't have to run more than half track for the 1st two rounds due to the ducks I was paired up with. Time for 3rd round after a long break due to a broken car and track cleanup. I kept the same 10.32 dial on the car, and was up against a good friend of mine. I fell asleep at the tree and had a lot of ground to make up, and ran the car all the way out and broke out (to a new personal best!). Here's the breakdown of the run:
60: 1.445
330: 4.199
1/8th: 6.522
1/8mph: 105.58
1000: 8.536
1/4: 10.246
MPH: 131.38
I made one more run after that one and launched off the transbrake. The 60' was a little better (1.42), but the rest of the run was pretty much the same with a 10.25 ET (I think the car was just hot).
I know there's still some ET left in it, as the converter could use a little tweaking, and I think the car is still a little rich. I didn't figure on really running the car much tonight, so I didn't bring the laptop to play with the tune any. Oh well...
I can't wait till fall gets here!

Very nice George, you are glad you stuck with the glide now I bet Nothing like tweaking a car and going to the track to reap the rewards. I think a 9 in the cooler weather. Good job

Congrats! You are running 7mph faster in the 1/8th mile than I run in the full 1/4!

Re: Awesome night at the track, and another new best!
Thanks guys!
I am happy with the powerglide for now. I think a slight re-work of the converter will get the 60' times down a bit more. I have gone 1.37 w/the glide and my old converter.
Thunder Shootout? Still debating. It's a long haul and I'm broke . I do want to go, however, and I am trying to work things out. I don't know how competitive I'd be at a legal raceweight, though (I estimate being around 3050lbs now).
Yes Coach, it did feel good to go a few rounds. Next time I race I'll probably be using my monkey box, though. Maybe I can cut a light then.

WOW. 10.20 is awsome and 9 will be yours for sure. However if you pulled up at the local hot spot and said that you ran close to the tens on them cheap {non drag} radials you would get luaghed out of town. Then you could make some money and have some fun.Very impressive.

George,
Get that monkey box in and go get em in top et.
About the Thunder Shootout is concerned. Thats what credit cards are for. It's only once a year.
I want to see your Hot Rod run with the glide. This might be the way I go except that I want to put in a 522 big block, a glide and a monkey box and go top et racing.

George, that is awesome.
I think we'll see a 382 in the 9's come this fall.
If you don't mind, What are the specs. on your solid cam?
Thanks
John

I'm not sure of the LSA, as I still don't have a cam card or build sheet from ARE.

Congrats George that is awesome!
Its good to see you out tweaking your combo all the time. 10.2 in shitty air is hauling. I think 9's are in the bag come fall
Cheers,
Chris

I'm always missing your killer times George. Hell I only got 10.50s on the day you ran the TCI 10 inch convertor that stalled to 3500. Still cool watching a stock-looking car wax big-tired super pro cars.
