Default Weird track incident.....

Well i went to Sacramento Raceway tonight and no new bests . Anyway i was watching this cool red 68 or 69 camaro with fat slicks do his burnout and stage. He staged and when the lights dropped he like "blew up," sorta not really. It was a loud bang, and his car didnt move. Then after about 10 seconds there was fat flames coming from his hood and under his car. He jumped out of his car and ran to open the hood and the tracks guys ran over with fire extinguishers and put it out. He then tried to start his car for about 1-2 minutes. It just kept cranking. Finally he got it started . Then he staged again when he got it started and ran a 11.something@120 something. What the hell happened? Has anyone seen this before?

Probably a nitrous backfire. Seen it happen quite a bit. Saw a 99 vette backfire on nitrous and it did the same thing.

I saw a rather strange incident last night as well. This was a friend of mine with a '71 SBC Nova and a 150hp Edelbrock N2O system. When he launched the car, it ripped the spring perch mounts right off the axle tubes, and spun the entire differential around backwards. The pinion was facing toward the back of the car, and punched through the fuel tank, emptying a full tank of fuel on the starting line. Obviously, the car was immobilized... The body of the car fell on top of the rear tires, and the leaf springs and traction bars were literally on the ground.

Overall the damage doesn't look too bad considering... Now he has a good excuse to install the fuel cell he's been wanting to put in anyway.

OMG George that is wild. He has me beaten for launching problems for sure. Granted your buddy in the nova should 4 link it, ya know everyone likes a 4 link

I honestly don't like to break at the track but coming home checking out the shrapnel that i tore up is kinda fun. The last track day taking out everything behind the trany was kinda fun

I would guess as well that it was a nos backfire.

the car caught fire, they put it out with a fire extinguisher, and they let him finish the run? normaly you get pushed off the line when that happens

Hey George, the car wasnt hurt near as bad as it looked. We are gonna change how the rear is held to the leaf springs (the old setup didnt have U-bolts). It killed the gas tank, the rear brake line and one slick has a gouge in it. We are gonna send the driveshaft out too just incase since it slapped the floor pretty hard.

He had the 175 jets in for that pass too

You send my converter off yet?

I didn't talk to Jason yesterday, so I hadn't heard anything.

I'm going to try and get the converter sent out tomorrow. I just need to write a letter to stick in the box with it, and send it on it's way!
