Need to put on some weight!
If I go to the Thunder Shootout, and run Modified Stock Auto, I'm going to have to put some weight back in the car. I'd guess somewhere around 400-500 lbs.
I have no clue as to where to start, as most of the stuff I've removed can't practically be reinstalled.
Give me some ideas...

Re: Need to put on some weight!
1) stock seats should be good for 60# if you can get ahold of power units.
2) you have to run mufflers so use a 16" bullet off an extension on the header. who knows maybe an extra 20 pounds.
3) optima blue top marine battery...damn mine weighs like 43 #'s!!!!
4) stock carpet if you don't mind cutting holes for cage, maybe 15-20 #s over your current carpet.
5) FULL tank of race gas...kinda pricy...but a doable option if your cars sees mainly track duty...or you have a way to drain the tank later.
6) remount speakers
Damn thats not even a dent is it.
drill hole in upper hoop of cage, and tap...fill cage with mercury, plug hole. after event drill drain holes

Re: Need to put on some weight!
Good ideas, but none will work for me...
There's no way to mount the stock seats in the car. I grinded the mounting studs off when I stripped the interior after the fire and re-did everything.
It would be very difficult to run a different muffler than I have now, as they end just before the torque arm crossmember.
I have a pretty big traditional top-post battery in the rear of the car already.
Stock carpet burned up in fire.
I can do a full tank of fuel. That would be ~11 gallons more than I usually run. Should be an extra 65lbs or so there.
Speakers are long gone, and didn't weigh much anyway.
I'm thinking of some heavy iron plates bolted down somewhere in the back of the car

George, Put some lead in the car. Now that you have the weight off the car, you now have the choice of where to place it. Go to any steel shop, or junkyard/scrap yard. and they should have lead there. Just bolt some lead in the passenger seat, and in the rear. Make sure with that much in the rear, you dont pull a Mikey and stand it on the bumper!

Re: Need to put on some weight!
On the stockers we build I usually build weight bars for the car. They are designed to be moved around in the car for different tracks. On one of our stockers I actually have 100lbs under the radiator, 50lbs behind each seat, and 80 lbs hanging off the frame on both sides of the rear under the bumper cover. The key is to be able to move the weight for better traction.

Re: Need to put on some weight!
Thanks Madman! That's pretty much what I've been thinking about doing. I kind of doubt I'll make it to the shootout, though. There is a lot of stuff going on around that same time, and Super Chevy is the weekend before in Gainesville. I need to concentrate on getting the car ready for some NHRA S/ST racing as well, as there is a big divisional race in December.
It just doesn't look like I'll be able to put aside the time needed to make a 12+ hour tow for the Thunder Shootout.

Try a Bob Cosby Mod....
Mount a spare tire full of lead shot in the back
Works well.. also pretty good for a party joke... "...bet you can't pick up that spare.. "

Re: Need to put on some weight!
try to get the weight in the trunk and back seat. If you try putting weight upfront you will go slower than if its in the back. Besides some weight over the back wheels is always good for traction.

Re: Need to put on some weight!
I am having the same delimma George. I need to add 300 pounds to the car.
I figure a few pounds with the bumpers but after that I run out of items.
I am really considering just blowing off the whole thing.
Folks work too hard trying to lighten up the car in small ways, and now you have to go back and reengineer a way to add the weight back in?
Then go run the car with the added weight, stressing your drivetrain/motor?
Sorry, but my motivation is low to do that. The whole goal is for the car is to go faster....not slow it down. *sigh*

Re: Need to put on some weight!
I agree with your thinking John, but on the other hand I can understand having a minimum weight rule. Most races/classes have one, but it's usually not so heavy. I takes so much work losing a few lbs. at a time, and it's difficult to put it back in.
I doubt I'll make it to the Shootout, as I'm trying to get the car prepped for NHRA Super Street racing. I think I'm going to run S/ST for points next year, and still have quite a few things to do to ready the car. They have a weight minimum too, but I think it's 2700lbs.

Re: Need to put on some weight!
I'd be really disappointed if George C and Raughammer didn't show up to the biggest LS1 event of the year. Baton Rouge isn't that far from either of you, try driving to Kentucky!
If you miss the event, you will regret it. We had a BLAST hanging out in Bowling Green last year, its not only about racing.
Look who my competitors are in my class. Colonel, PaiN, Judson, Mikey, and several more, but I'm still going.

Re: Need to put on some weight!
Well why can't they just have a time penalty for under weight? Why make things so difficult? For example, 300 pounds under, penalize 3-tenths on the lights. This isn't rocket science you know

I agree, just call up Anna Nicole and ask her if she will sit in the back...
