Default how hot does your motor run on the highway?

I was drivin to work yesterday in 95 degree heat w/ the AC on goin about 75 in 5th gear when I was shocked to see my temp needle in the red (260+).. I turned off the AC and it went back down to 210 in about 30 seconds...

Is my temp guage bad? Could the motor truly have dropped 50 degrees in 30 seconds? I think it is more likely that the stock guage is just a dummy light w/ two real settings, 210 and 260...

I have a SLP CAI... does anybody else running one have these problems? I may have to rip the thing out if this continues and do some more testing...

my engine is completely stock save for a ported TB, lid and SLPCAI...

Wow Mike, that is too hot, something must be wrong. Unless the radiator was blocked by something that got lodged in there? But sounds like maybe the gauge is getting flakey.

With a 160 stat and the FTRA, mine reads just over 180 on the highway, even in hot weather - with a real autometer gauge, not the factory one.

You don't have ground effects do ya? Mine would do this cause they would steer the air away from under the car. Also that SLP CAI if similar to the Fast Toys ram air is not helping ya.

hmm ive never had that problem with my Z but ive got a 160 stat with fan settings to match it...but if its a stock thermo the fan settings are pretty high, but at a constant speed it should never get that hot, I'd check to make sure there is nothing blocking incoming air espeically if its never done this before & do a once over of your cooling system. Also get somebody to autotap it for your coolant temp just to make sure that it isnt just a complete dummy light...even in my 98 it could be 10-20 degrees off what it was saying it was.

Maybe your fans did not come on. I've been A/C'less for a while, but as I recall the fans come on with A/C, no matter what temp the coolant is. If your temp dropped quickly w/o the A/C, you must be getting some cooling.

I've had that happen to me in my truck where the thermostat was going back and would stick closed. then suddenly open and the temp would drop in seconds.

With the headers I have, I could reach the freeze plug on the passanger head very easily from under the car. Put the sensor in there with the Equus adapter, wired it up, and the darn thing actually worked!
