The hardest part of changing these plugs in an LS1 is not getting to the plugs.. Take the coil packs off that is cake.. It is getting the friggin damn plug wires off.. Especially number 8 where you have 0 pull room!! This is stupid!!

Just got it finished!!! All in all it was not as bad as I thought it would be.. Getting the wires off really was the worst of it, and the back coil pack bolt.. But, got em all off, and back together in about 2 hours..Not to bad.. Now the oil....

Pulling them off no sweat, it's getting that #8 wire back on UP TOP on the coil pack, I put the wire on the plug first then get them on the coil pack last. Sucks

I do mine the opposite (coil first, then plug) because I have dropped the #8 wire so many times while trying to get it on the plug.

I get to #8 from underneath the car. Its the easiest way for me. Course I have small hands n smell like cabbage. It takes me about an hour to change the plugs.

I put them on the plug first WITHOUT the coil packs bolted up, no way to drop it then Then I take the coil pack on the #8 side, tilt it back there to get the plug wire on up top, then get it ready to line it up for bolting it down, seems to work well

I connected the plug first, then the coil pack.. Was a bitch still getting #8 plugged in tight... Good thing is, they aint shaking loose!!

Another piece of good news is that after 86k miles, all the plugs looks in great shape... Car is running smooth and clean...

Got the oil changed which was of course a cakewalk.

Ahhh, I see. I don't have to remove the coil pack on #8 (I have a 98), so that makes a little more sense.

i just put new plugs and wires on my 99 ls1, i didnt remove any of the coil packs. i had no problem really until i got to the dreaded #8 aghhh. getting the wire off was kind of tricky but not to bad. i could not get the #8 plug out. no matter what i tried i could not get anything to fit between the plug and the side wall. so i just changed the other 7 plugs and wires until i can get to sears tomorrow to find something to help me get the #8 plug out.

is it easier to get the plug out if i remove the coil pack?????

Did you try jacking the car up, and going at it from under the car. This Is the easiest way.

i had the car up on ramps. the problem was no room for the ratchet and socket in there to get the plug loose.

get some LT's on there it should make it much easier...at least it did in my case, yah that pass rear wire is a bitch i usually get it from the bottom even now.

I did mine standing in the engine bay. It was cake. Course, I was doing the cam swap too, so I had the luxuary of removing the radiator. No, I wouldnt suggest you take the radiator out just to change the plugs. But if youre doing a cam swap or anything where you pull the radiator out, DEFINITELY CHANGE THE PLUGS AND WIRES TOO!!!!!!!!

Get a swivel head ratchet. It makes the job alot easier on all of them. If you havn't done it already take the rubber grommet out of your sparkplug socket or just use a deepwell 5/8 sockett. If you do not have a 1" extention, get one that will help as well.

I cannot get to 8 from the bottom of the car. I tried a few times. I have a 98' w/stock exhaust from manifolds back. The manifold flange and flex joint are in my way.

I'm relocating my coils soon to make this easier.
