Do-it-yourself rebuild guide? Is there any place online where I could read up on how to rebuild the bottom end of an ls1? I'm just talking about rebuilding a 346 with some better pistons/rods in the garage.

you know, ive been wondering the same thing for a while. ive gotten some information off the gm service website at the dealership i used to work at, but thats about it. it's pretty helpful.
im building a 427 ls1 and i think it would be nice to have another source of info for the buildup, just for peice of mind.

Jmx has some great info on www.LS1howto.com as in all the torquespecs and such. i just did one last weekend and it is seriously a piece of cake. just take you're time and do it right. corner cutting is not wise in building engines. much less ones that see use every day.

Re: Do-it-yourself rebuild guide? No, installing a stroker cannot be done "in frame" (in the car). First off the cylinders will need to be bored or honed (depending on the ammount of overbore) for the new pistons. Also, it is critical to check the clearances of the crank and the new bearings. And, when doing a motor you need to make sure everything is super clean. I just saw a destroyed 382 that the guy tried to do himself. Very little was salvagable after it came back out from improper assembly and not keeping it clean.

Re: Do-it-yourself rebuild guide? GM makes a book, it's in the Performance Parts catalog, It's 88959384-LS1 Engine Kit Installation Guide. I dont know what the price is, or how usefull it would be.
