Keep a video camera with a good sound microphone and have someone videotape your next launches. I always wanted to see how loud a rearend going "boom" would be.

Seriously, if you were a cat you would have likely used eight of your lives. Get a 12 bolt, because the rear end going out suddenly can take other things with it (like your tranny and clutch).

Which, speaking of, sounds like you have some clutch release problems based on your description of your shifting issues. I was too quick to blame my old manual tranny in the past when it was actually the clutch.

35-40 luanches at 5500 rpms or so on ET streets spraying right off the line. 60 ft from 1.58-1.62. Stock rear with stock 3.42s. Broke the diff once..called SLP and got a takeoff unit for $99. Now i have about another 30 launches on this unit...no problems. I will have a 12 bolt soon though.

I don't think it's the clutch. I've got a brand new Mcleod Twin disc with adjustable master and 02' slave. It feels great.

450RWHP + McLeod twin disc clutch + ET Streets + 6000 rpm launches = hella twisting on that rear!!!! nice runs and launches John! driver did his job there! now lets get that tranny fixed up!

yep, I did it last night with my stock rear, M6 and 3.42's!!! <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />
Ran 4 times at KCIR with almost new ET streets.

Launched at 5000, 5500, 5500 and 6000.
my best 60' on 6000 being 1.68 and ran a 11.70@118.7 having a horrible 2nd gear shift and hitting the limiter in 3rd just before the traps.

I thought STOCK 3.42 rear ends were weak????? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> not that I'm expecting to take it for too long...

Finally after tweaking with my car for a year and a half and having all kinds of clutch and tranny problems I blasted into the 11's!!! My tranny is still screwed up and I can't power shift with it <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

If you launch properly (read: not sidestepping/dumping the clutch) the stock rear with 3.42s will hold 10s for a little while <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Anyway, I got 14 launches out of my stock rear, they were on 26x10x15 ET Drags with tubes and screws. Mods were h/c, 4.10's, putting ~400 rwtq and launching at 6500 rpm <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> And I shattered a couple of teeth in the ring gear, everything else was fine. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />

I got it rebuilt under warranty. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> I think the tranny broke due to hard shifting paired with crappy internals rather than jolting launches.

I blew mine on friday night, 3K dump + Mcloed = rear end pop, stick, then drive shaft shred into 3 peices, car sits on the line and does not move a inch! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />
