Cage for 11.99, 10.99, 9.99, 9.49 ?
Does anyone know what cage setup is required for 1/4 mile ET's of:
11.99
10.99
9.99
9.49
8.99(since LS1's have recently broke into this ET)
Or what ever the rules break them out to.
I called a number of shops in Texas and I got a different answer from each shop, and you wouldn't believe the variance in pricing for a similar cage setup.
It looks like I'm getting up sold on the cage, even when telling them I want the minimum for an ET and do not want to run quicker.
If I *KNOW* what is the minimum requirement, then I can make better informed decisions and avoid getting over-sold
and over-charged.

11.99 requires a minimum 5-point roll bar made from 1.75" tubing. That's good (assuming the car is not backhalved) down to 10.00.
To run quicker than 10.00, you need a full rollcage (10-point due to the short angled bars coming off the main hoop, which I'm not 100% sure if they're required). The cage also has to be NHRA certified, and is good to 7.50 ET's. A lot of other safety requirements come into play also, but that's the basics as far as roll bars/cages are concerned.

Another word that comes up from almost all the calls was a halo.
At what point is this "halo" required?
MadMan's shop is very from from me, but I'll call for a couple of quick answers later this week.

Tom, I believe the wall thickness is the same for mild steel and chromemoly. A 10-point cage allows you to use 1 5/8" tubing instead of the slightly heavier 1 3/4" required for the 5-point.
Darkhorse, the "halo" is the roof bar which connects the main hoop to the bars that run down along the windshield pillars and through the dash.
Give Madman a call. Even if he's too far for you to take the car to, he'll give you straight up answers. He knows his ****.

"NHRA, is 11.99 and faster, 6point.
IHRA is 11.49 and faster. 6 point.
Actually, 5. The passenger's side bar isn't necessary.
So the 10-point is good for 7.5? Cool, no more cages to buy for awhile! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Actually .134 wall tubing is NOT the minimum....120 is.....and it is currently only checked on 9.99 and faster cars....It is checked via ultra sound.....and .134 is used becuse it is .134 before its rolled......then rolled it will chck less....so if you use a 120 wall it could check less as tubing.....like 118........and not pass a 9.99 and faster chassis cert....
The wall thickness is a pretty minor thing on a bar or cage.....most are installed and welded incorectly.....luckly even those have prooved pretty strong in an incident....
