Default Do Heads=Louder Exhaust??

Does adding a set of ported heads make the exhaust a lot louder at idle and wot? Just curious

it would make some sence. the way i look at it the more hp you gain the bigger explosion you have in the cc which in theory it should be louder. dont know if it's true or not be it sounds good to me

I wouldnt say alot louder, but it can. Higher compression for example could increase exhause noice a little

i would think that the more hp you make the louder it would be as well! it only makes sense. and it also depends on how free flowing your exhaust is!

i wouldn't think it'd up the exhaust note too much, the cam has much more effect on the exhaust note(ie lope, duration, et cetera). if anything you're talking about larger open spaces, internal resonance, but since there is gas/vapor mixes swirling around in there its pretty much a moot point.

this is honestly the first time i ever remember even considering this....i don't think i've ever heard anyone bring this up before. am interested in the replies.

It will change it a little bit. More airflow. Not enough to really matter, personally.

Ported heads made my setup a tad bit louder, but not much louder.

carcraft ran a compression test on a mopar 440 a while ago.
one thing they mentioned that surprised them was how the exhaust note
changed in both db & tone.. said the low comp sounded wimpy and the higher
comp's were sharper w/ more of an authoritative note..

My exhaust note seemed to be throatier and deeper after adding my heads. Whether this was due to higher compression or better flowing heads I don't know. I also noticed the same thing when I installed my AFR 195s on my 360Ci Marine Engine.
