just do it, its very simple. i cant stand all of these guys on the board asking how to take the engine out, look at it and do it, whats so hard about it. if you need to be told to disconnect the steering shaft to drop the k-member then you dont belong under the hood.

i'm not picking on you but every other post on this board is about how to drop the motor.

I'm not asking how to do it. I'm asking how much time is involved. Besides, are you born to belong under a hood? No; it's something that you learn. Trust me, I have searched, and there aren't too terribly many threads on engine removal. Thanks for taking your frusteration out on me, though.

sorry man and i wasnt implying that you needed instruction on how to do it or you couldnt do it, it just seems that most people dont want to try anything without someone holding there hand to do it.

it's really a piece of cake the first time i did it it took me about 4 hours, by the third one i can now do it in about 3. good luck

a little tip if you take the tranny out first it makes getting to the wires on the back of the cylinder and manifold alot easier to get to.

Thanks for the tip... but I always have trouble with the tranny.... so we'll see how it goes. I've spent about 2 hours and I've got most of the **** undone from the top.

well... discovered my oil pan, filter, and half my tranny was soaked with oil... may be part of the reason I'm having to swap motors... lol.

Make sure that you watch the brake lines when droping the the k-member. Oh and it took me 2.5 hrs by myself with a lift and air tools

Iv'e done it in an hour or less with the help of a knowledgeably friend that I didn't have to show him what to do and it was very fast! I do it by myself no lift I just use an engine hoist in about 1.5-2.0 hours. And as far as the wiring goes I take the engine and trany with the engine harness with it I don't try to get anything that takes major time I just drop the whole thing and then take it apart on the ground with air tools etc... Here are a few pics.

How do you attach the strap to the car? That looks like the easiest way I have seen for a do it at home job so far.

This particular time I attached 4 5500lb straps from the lift to the front crossbar that goes across the frame rails, but in a few day when I have to take it out agian to install some forged pistons etc... I plan on attaching one strap around the core support. It allows me the maximum amount of lift etc...

That's cool! However, I don't think my garage is tall enough to lift the car that high.

I installed my heads and cam, and I would rather do it your way then go through what I did to change my H/C.

10 ft celings but you could so it in an 8ft garage you would just have to remove the hood. Just a few to think about.
