Default M6-denneys nitrous-12bolt strange rear

Ok the question i have is how much machined yoke is suposed to be exposed exiting the trans with the car loaded and pinion angle set at -2. I have none and i am getting one hell of a grinding and binding sound when i test drove the car . I turned around and came here for help.

You probably only need 1/2" or less of exposed slip yoke, but maybe it's too long inside the trans. When I had my DS made, the slip yoke they used was too long and wouldn't go in all the way. Had to cut about 5/8" off the end of it.

Pull it and compare it to the old DS/yoke. My DS had to be about 3/4" shorter when I installed my 12 bolt too.

My Denny's driveshaft fits darn near all the way in to the trans. I look at it this way - I'm getting a lot of spline engagement between the yoke and the mainshaft. The less spline engagement you have, the less 'area' the torque gets spread across.

I too thought that my driveshaft was too long (just by looking at it). I suppose the question would be, how much play do you have from the yoke on the rear end to the driveshaft? I'd say the driveshaft needs to be able to move in/out of the trans by 1/4" or so... That's about how much 'play' I have in mine (when I pop the U-bolts on the rear yoke, and move the driveshaft forward to pull it out).

Mine has nearly no shiny yoke exposed at the rubber seal. But my trans does not make any grinding noises... your driveshaft may be a smidge too long.

True....more spline engagement is good. Up to a point where the DS is too long and the first big bump you the slip yoke slams into the trans, bottoms out and ruins it.

1/4" should cover it. I would check with the suspension loaded, and pinion yoke unbolted, that the DS can slide forward 1/4" min. If not, you need to either shorten the DS or get longer control arms.

here is a question i will post in a minute or two do you think the hight difference between a 12 bolt and the stock 10 Would throw off the baqlance of the car and while setting pinikon angle i did not compensate for the degree or two i gained in the difference in hight of each rear.

Well I have a DD Nitrous Shaft, Moser 12-Bolt and a M6. Pretty much none of mine is sticking out. But considering when I just pulled it out yesterday I could still push it into the tranny almost a 1/2" I don't believe there is any issues. When I picked up my shaft from Denny's they said that is how it should be - no issues here.
