Default Do yourself a favor, bump your idle to 700rpm

when you get your converter installed.
I had mine set to 700 and its suits the converter well.No hunting and it smooths out the engine nicely.
Secondly have to lock up MPH moved to 50 ish mph.You won't get the sudden drop in rpm under light throttle when the converter locks.
Much better feel.

If you move your lock-up to 45 mph or higher, you should also try raising your part throttle shift points below 50% TPS. Try increasing the upshift table to 50% TPS by 15% (i.e. multiplying by 115 in edit) and increase the downshift table by 10%.

i like the numbers your talkin. lets say my lockup is 50 ish...can you give me exact settings to tell the tuner i would like my pcm settings at. the settings you have stated....does that increase performance or driveability?

its a drivability issue. Instead of being low in the gear and riding the converter, raising the shift points uses your gearing more and allows the converter to do less work. It will make it feel like you have a Vig 2800 in there from a looseness perspective.

I can't give you exact numbers, part of it will depend on how you drive the car and how loose your converter is, but your tuner can use those percentages with edit or HPtuner. On the upshifts it adds 1-2 mph on the 1-2, about 3-4 mph on the 2-3 upshift and 4-5 mph on 3-4 upshift. If you use 2/4/5 on the upshifts and 1/2/3 on the downshifts that will probably be a good start.

If you are moving your lock up to 45 or 50mph then it won't ever lock up on regular street driving right? Gas mileage would be a bit worse.

I can agree on the idle raise a bit. Mine will hunt a tad when i'm coming to an idle from driving. It has even died on me a couple of times from idling too low.

Think about it when your converter locks up at 40 ish ,how long does it really stay there if your in traffic? I bet your in and out of lock up quite abit.Lock up is really for highway and highway speeds are well you know above 50mph.I just did not like the lock up that low and the sudden drop in rpm it really lugged.
Try it you'll like it.

I leave the car in D (3rd) in town. Lock-up in 3rd makes drivability better when you have a 4000+ stall.

Yeah I have to* leave the car in 3rd while around town, once I get over 50 and I know I am staying over 50 I pop it into 4th.
Reason I have to is because my car throws a code when I don't p0157 or something like that.
Kinda sucks cause my mom always wants to take my car and I am like no you can't because I am too lazy to get this minor problem taken care of

James and I talked about (increase idle and bumping up lock-up)and in the end it works really well. When I put the car back to stock tune for what ever reason I can't stand driving the car it feels to lazy and does not have the punch that the new tune has.
See ya.

My limited understanding of the locking and unlocking of the higher stall converters is that when you press on the brake (after lock up) the converter automatically unlocks.

If my statement is incorrect, please let me know.

I have a Y3000 2.0 STR, coupled to 3.73's, and after the dyno tune, my vehicle idle was 900 RPM out of gear, 700 RPM in gear.

No it does not automatically unlock. i.e. when your on the higway doing 70 and brake to 60 your converter stays locked in most cases.

My converter (when selector is in 4th) locks up at 48mph and unlocks at 40. i.e. when I am driving on the highway and my speed reaches 48mph all of a sudden my rpms drop and my converter is locked, if I let go of the accelerator and the car slows itself down to 40 mph the converter unlocks and the rpms jump a bit.

My converter also sometimes unlocks when I hit a fairly large pot hole, it'll unlock then lock up a few seconds later

My idle is set at stock....around 500-550ish....works great for me

my converter is pretty tight, so I guess its not that big of a problem (SS3800) If I had went with a looser converter, then I would have probably had them raise the idle a bit

everyones preferences vary but mine is set to lock up at 40MPH. It does not come unlocked unless I give it about 3/4 throttle. It does not lunge or buck either. It's all in the driveability tune. I personally wouldn't set my lock up so high. But that is me. I used to drive in 3rd till I got someone that knew what they were doing with edit.

I wish my car would idle at 700RPM no way in hell it would though. 850 here. Little surge but tis alright. 900 would smooth it out more but it doesn't do it all the time. I wish I hadn't drilled out my TB plate. It be easier to stabilize.

I thought that i had a idle problem until i read this. Mine would idle really bad after i had my converter put in. I adjusted it a few times, i think its to high now. it sill surge from 900-1100 when in gear at a stop. I still cant figure it out. I think its still to low now, it will drop rpms when at a stop. any sugestions on how to adjust it?

Need:
stock cam? All you need is to open your idle set screw by 1/2 a turn and you should be fine.
