Default Gettin rid of an airbag............

Where did you guys sell your airbags when you pulled them out? I read after doin a search that some of you got about 300 for em.

Just curious where you sold em.

Thanks, Stu

What are you doing for a steering wheel? I blew my airbags in a wreck of my 98 Formula. I've used the 98 as a donor for a 94 Z28. I have the 98 Formula steering wheel installed, but have not yet figured out how to fill the gaping hole in the wheel where the airbag once was.

Just go buy the aftermarket steering wheel of your choice.

What exactly is the thought process behind removing the one piece of safety equipment that might save your life? All this for what...15lbs?

Every person has there own reasons.

In my particular case, I think it would be more of a hazard than anything else. My car is very rarely street driven, and at the track I'm secured in the seat with a 5-point harness and surrounded by a rollbar. The airbag offers no protection whatsoever in what I use my car for.

When's the last time you saw an airbag in a Winston Cup car?

Has anyone actually had the airbag deploy after a wheelstanding launch? Man that would suck.

The guy who did my cage said they did a cage for a guy, and he left the bags in. Well he got some tire shake real bad and it went off in his face causing him to wreck.

to each their own is what you should think. just like smoking, if they want to harm themselves, it's their fault. i'm not gonna be driving mine on the street all that much, so every little bit is worth it to me. although that air bag deploying on a hard launch has got me scared a bit so it looks like ebay will have mine up there in a bit.

Chris

not knocking anyone who doesn't like this idea, just saying....

how much did the airbags sell for on e-bay? i'm trying to sell my passenger air bag, but have no idea what to price it at.

btw, there was a local guy here that had his deploy on launch. supposedly something broke in the trans and the shock deployed both airbags. the car hardly even moved. you just saw a bunch of smoke inside the drivers compartment. 6-speed 10 sec car.

EDIT:
actually larry01, i just checked out your link. that's the guy i was talking about...

Air bags require a significant impact to deploy. Trust me...I just smacked the center divider on I-10 in my daily driver, and they did not deploy. First experience with hydroplaning was not enjoyable. For you full time racers I guess it is worth it, but you could always pull the fuse if you were worried about the air bags deploying when drag racing. I just get worried about the guys on here that drive their cars on the street who are tearing out their airbags, crash bars in their doors, and every other piece of safety equipment in a quest to reduce the weight of their car.
