And how do we fix this? I this a major sensor of some type? Thanks for a timely response.

It's the oil pressure sender. About $35-$45 from the dealer. Not a big deal.

they also sell a special deep socket that fits over that oil sensor so that you can install them properly. Look for it at the auto parts store too.

How do we get the rest of the broken threads out??
This wasnt on the back of the intake, it's on the back of the block, so it's the oil pressure sender??
My 99 didn't have that there..? confused.

your 99 does it have it there, they all have it there. You need that socket and you can unscrew the base out of the top of the block. Don't worry those sending units break easily and it happens all the time.

What Tony said.. They all have em, you probably just didn't notice it before. Make sure you use the correct socket made for the sender too..

For Future referance when doing an Intake swap, it is the brake booster rubber vacum hose that breaks the sending unit, before removing the intake, slide the special socket over the sensor that way when you remove the intake it will support the sensor and not let it break. This forces you to lift the hose over the socket and not break anything.

why? we did that whole cam swap in like no time, valve springs took us like 2-3 hours, the cam swap was about 3 hours. if i wouldnt have been in a hurry to swap the intake or if i woulda just left it alone i never woulda broke anything. the same goes with the dipstick tube, sometimes i just dont care about my car and get in a hurry and rip things out. i normally dont care to ask questions on the board, steve is the one who always does, if it were just me i would deal with it myself like i always do and just look it up. i think everyone on this board has gone through things like this, its totally normal, and im sorry any other mechanic does the same if not worse.

It's a 98. Dry-rot. What do you expect? Plus GM uses poopie parts sometimes.

Heh, just broke mine trying to put the intake back on after the heads/cam swap. Dealer wanted $47 for a new one, O'Reilly had it for $27. Boo @ West Side Chevrolet. Yeah they really should add that to the how to (It's what I was using) and perhaps how difficult it really is to get the front crank seal off... and the farthest back bolt holding on the coil pack bracket on 99+ cars. Also Some info on A4 car would be helpful... I broke my pully trying to get it off (heh perfect excuse to get an ASP ). Also the how to makes no mention of the AIR and EGR that I recall. Either way, they should put a metal sleeve around that sensor.
