Default thoughts and strange tidbits from the Thunder Shootout (post 'em here?)

I think it is 100% agreed by all that TR put on a hell of a show and their volunters made it happen smoothly and professionally. But some interesting and strange stuff happened that I thought those not able to attend would find interesting, here is my list in orderl

#1 thumbs down it is Pains mind boggling wheelie from hell!!!!
#2 The mad thrashing to get the BeaSSt running and then running nine's with no break-in time
#3 Two cars both leaving the starting line before the lights went off.
#4 Two side-by-side 6-speeds breaking during their burnouts.
#5 9ball almost in the same boat as the BeaSSt but a lot slower
#6 George C running low 10's on a sub-400 CID motor.
#7 Watching Harlan run 130 mph plus 1/4 miles
#8 The 9 second pass by the red LT1 T/A, side to side all the way down the track and flashers going against SAM in the King of the Cane Field.
#9 No Problem hooks!!! Just ask all of the above.
#10 This belongs at # 1 ... but meeting Tom the Roofer and many other nice LS1Tech.com folks that I have never seen before. Guys and gals, you need to make the trip to the next event just for the company.

Honorable mention ... Tim H (95Formula) bumping 10's all day in his lowly Lt1

Quotes of the Weekend"
Chasgiv3 ..... "Donaldsonville is a dangerous town", this coming from a guy from the South Side of Chicago. LOL, shows you what a little cajun voodoo does to the faint of heart.

Tom the Roofer ... "funny how you get a mental image of people from their posts. From the way you all describe Tim98TA, I thought he was 3 feet high and 4 feet wide."

Everyone .... "Vince is one big dude"

Tim98TA .... "I wouldn't know, I can't see above his knees"

My son ... "I'm pulling for Mr. George because his last name is Coffey"

Joe Kizzire to me ..."ask Judsen how much his transmission cost"

It was pretty wild to see both of them lined up, rev'd up, and then quiet... Both cars just sitting still. Pat calls over the radio, "Marion, mark #83 and #84 on the wall." (That's the # of rear ends that have broken on the starting line in the year that this strip has been open.)

I didn't get to see Pain's wheelstand in person, but the video is just plain incredible. Can't wait until Gordon gets it posted.

I also enjoyed meeting everyone...way to many people to mention! I even put Tom the Roofer to work today inspecting the roof of our (potential) new building for Thunder Racing. That was very cool of him to bring all of his stuff down and do this for us (and Beverly to have the patience to let him do it on her vacation.)

I would also like to add that it was nice to put some faces with some names after all this time. Luckily, I was able to meet GeorgeC, Trevor D, Nine Ball, PaiN, Tom the Roofer, Vince, 1madSS, and quite a few others. Hopefully, I will be able to make a few other events later this year and meet some of the other members on here.

the shoot out was awsome. i have not been on this board long enough to met with people but i still had a good time. also on #4 both cars accually broke on there launches. the funny part is when they got out of the cars and noticed that they both broke that then started tring to push there cars down there track for the win. if only they would of let them that would be awsome but i think that one of them was leaking fluid. also the Red LT1 putting on the hazzards against the SAM car was crazy but at the same time he almost lost control at the top end and almost crossed the line but still took the win. he probably almost lost it because he let his hands off the steering wheel to find the hazzard switch.

I had a blast at this thing.

Angie and the TR team great job with the event.I don't think it could have went smoother. It was a very good turnout in my opinion as well.

It was also a pleasure to meet you.(sorry about your truck).Oh and nice #'s with your car.

It was nice to meet some others as well and put faces with names.I wish i could have got around more and met more people.I had to do some last minute driving in Chris Sikora's brand new 0 mile,no track time, untuned mystic teal Z.We had some issues but will be back out soon to go for the gold 9.4 @ 144 on a mild launch(1.6? 60ft)foot brake, and 15psi ribbed belt that we lost or slipped bad every pass is not to bad.

PAIN that wheel stand was sick

congrats to everyone on their wins.

I think it should be MANDATORY that people write their LS1tech User ID's on their cars and/or on a sticker (for those not racing) I missed so many people by not knowing who they were.

Matt Harlan was going wicked fast in his little ol 348 ci car. His best ET was 10.000 and his best mph was 142.XX I think. I can't wait till he gets a decent 60' time and doesn't get tree'd too badly, WAKE UP MATT...

I had a great time and met several guys. wish I had time to meet more. LETS DO IT AGAIN IN SPRING and maybe I can have a cage installed.

Actually the way the track hooked the W argument is a moot point. Several cars were in the 1.28's to 1.32's 60's on true 10.5's. Look at the pictures Mikey.

Mikey the next tires you buy try a set of 10.5 S's.
Same sidewall as the W's and true 10.5. Billy Glidden runs 7.80's on them so I think they would probably work for you.

Like using the screen name like a middle name or something. That would have been nice though. Maybe next year.

I was VERY impressed with NineBall's, Coach's, and Harlan's Cars.

NineBall - the car sounds so docile while idleing and through the muffler but is a MONSTER at the track especially weighing in at over 3600 lbs.

Coach - getting a hydraulic cammed 346 to run 11.0x's in an M6 and 1.46 60' times That car looks VIOLENT coming off the line

Harlan - the car is making INSANE amounts of power is all I have to say about that

Things not to do for the next event:
1) Stay up ALL nite Friday drinking before you have to stand on the starting line all day Sat.
2) Walk out of the motorhome at 6am with a beer and tell everybody your off to work for the event.
3) Drink entirely TOO much and forget you insulted your wife, your friends wife, and total strangers.
4) Take pictures of your wife 1/2 nekkid climbing on the S.A.M. trailer at 3am
5) Tell the lady at the concession stand at 6:30am to stir your coffee with her finger cause they were out of Sweet-n-Low.
