New LS1 Owners - Newbie Tech - Need Some Quick Opinions

Ok my friend has a 1999 Z71 extended cab 4wd with the 260hp vortech 5.7 with a curb weight around 5000, he has been challenged by a 2003 toyota celica GT which i looked up and it makes 140hp with a curb weight of around 2400 will he take it or not? If he can how far should he run because im sure the celice will eventually start pulling him? Whats everyones advice

Id say you could get him off the line and chill ahead for a bit but not long...
