Cold knock

Cold knock I recently installed a 2000 LS1 from a c5 in my trcuk. The motor has cold knock that last about a minute. If I bring up the RPMs from idle the knock seems to go away quicker, but am I causing more damage. I just hate to listen to the knock! <img border="0" alt="[bang head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" /> Also, is the higher oil pressure frrom bringing up the RPMs helping quite the knock down, because I know the temp is not coming up that fast?

Re: Cold knock Ya, I know it is piston slap related to loose tolerances. My truck motor didn't have it as bad, just wondered if bring the RPMs up from idle to increase oil pressure was actually helping reduce wear or should I not worry about it. Thanks for the reply.

back from the dead, I searched and this came up. Mine just developed a cold rod knock. Lasts about a minute or so. 121k on the motor. I want it to last another year before I start my project. what can I do to help it?

If it only happens when the engine is cold then what you have is piston slap. It's harmless for the most part. If you are hearing it most of the time and more when you rev the engine, it is probably a rod knock or spun bearing. That's bad.
