Question New Tires Rubbing ?????????????

I have an 02 35th anniversary SS LE. I just had a prokit with revalved Bilsteins installed. My problem is I have ZO6 replica wheels 18x 10.5 with 295/35/18's. When I hit a bump my tires rub the outside fender wells scraping up the tires. I don't want to take a hammer and bang the lips up. Do I put the stock black 17's back on or does someone have another suggestion. I like the looks of both rims but I would rather keep my prokit and Bilsteins then ruin the tires. I could always sell the 18's and buy matching 17x9.5 for the rear. What anybody's ideas or input.

Default Tires rubbing

Is you rear centered? Did you try using an adjustable PHB.

I have 315's and my car is lowered with G2 springs no rubbing.

Regards,
Kevin

The combination of your wider tires/wheels and the lower (and very soft) prokit rear springs will allow bottoming and tire scrape. Its very common.

IMO, you have two options:

1) Roll the fenders (best option)

2) Switch to a larger offset wheel or a narrower wheel/tire combo to prevent contact with the fender lip.

I am using a 7/32 spacer so it doesn't rub the inner fender well which it was doing prior to using the spacer as evidenced by the worn off undercoating that wasn't there before putting the 18's on. The rear is centered or I believe it is close because both driver and passanger sides are rubbing the outside of the tires when I hit bumps. They can be small or medium bumps. I don't want to roll the lips. I put my stock 275/40/17's back on to try them and they don't rub at all when I hit bumps. I might return the 18's for 17x9.5 just so I don't have any probs but I really like the look of the 295/35/18 they look awesome from behind the car. Any help would be greatlt appreciated. If I went with a 275/40/18 would that be a similar width to my 275/40/17's and less of a chance of rubbing. TIA

I agree. The 295's look good on these cars and the more aggressive offset does too. Is there a particular reason you don't want to roll the fender lips? It's really the only way you're going to get the look you're after IMO and its not a big deal at all with the correct tool...

Ahh, a spacer, why? Just because of the inner wheel well rub? If so the BHF mod will be your best freind and resolve that.

Of if a spacer is wanted for other reasons, what about a compromise? A smaller spacer, and less BFH?

FYI, the "BFH" is a Big F'ing Hammer . . . I did it to my SS when I had the Z06'ers.

I know that you know. My 18x10.5's (53mm) with 295/35/18 would be hitting the fender lips if they weren't rolled and I was running soft-*** Prokits in the rear. That's even without a spacer.

The "correct" tool would be a fender roller such as the one Eastwood sells. See here: http://www.eastwoodco.com/shopping/p...=fender+roller
