Default Anybody interested in a real street car bolt ons list

Guys, I see these great times from bolt ons car but then I look at the stuff taken off of the car (bumper supports and swaybars are my favorites, can you say maniac) and I am like . Most of these cars are not street cars and are no fun to drive on the street.

I am curious if anybody is interested in a real street car list with maybe a 13.00 second bump.

Things you can do to the car:
!Jack and spare
!Back seat
Can use light weight drag wheels with any kind of tire you want
Can use any aftermarket part to leighten up vehicle
Can use any kind of suspension modifications
Can use any gear or tranny you want
Can bolt on anything to motor that doesn't touch oil NOT INCLUDING A BLOWER, TURBO, OR NITROUS

Things you can't do:
!Front seat
!Sway bars
!Airbags
!Bumbers or Bumber Supports
!Carpet or sound deadening
!Interior pieces (hatch speakers, amp, etc.)
!AC and or Heater
You get the idea hear

Things to include:
Car and year
All boltons (Motor, Tranny, Suspension)
Tuning (yes/no) and what kind (maft, ls1 edit, Ed Wright)
All of the allowed things removed from the car
Wheels and tires
Race Weight
Best MPH (including 60, 1/8, 1/4 ets)
Best ET (including 60, 1/8, 1/4, MPH)

I am just curious as to what can be expected from these cars in realistic street trim.

Me
2001 Camaro SS Ttop M6
FTRA, Lid, Filter, ASP pulley, Shaner TB, Ported Maf, Hooker LTs, 3" y, 3" exhaust when I made these runs with cutout, Pan Hard Bar, Sub Frame Connectors, LS1 edit tuning, 15" drag wheels with BFGs, steel shift fork in T56, stock z06 clutch

Best et 12.56/111.99 60':1.98 1/8:8.2 at 88.7
Best MPH 12.75/113.3 60':2.1 1/8:n/a no cutout on the same exhaust with the chrome tenspoke stock wheels up front and 15" camaro rs wheels with bfgs on them at that time

I have got some bugs to work out as I have been constantly loosing mph (clutch???).

Once again, this is no way intended to offend those willing to take off half the pieces of their car in order to go fast. I am just trying to see what I am up against.

P.S. Quite a few of these parts on my car have been replace recently

I dont think removing the front sway bar is a big deal at all for a street car. You should drive in one with the front swaybar removed before calling someone a maniac for doing it <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

You are basically talking about stealth weight reduction. This is what I call stealth weight reduction: (Not obviously visible when looking at the car from the outside or anything looking ghetto from peeking in the car windows)

LW hood (25-37 pounds)
LW battery (Hawker 18)
K-Member A-Arms (44 pounds)
! No AC (~35 pounds)
! front bumper support (23 pounds)
! front swaybar (13.5 pounds)
! washer bottle (3 pounds?)
! pass airbag (13.5 pounds)
! drivers airbag (lightweight wheel 4 pounds)
light weight carpet (30 pounds)
modified seat brackets (6 pounds)
or LW seat (15 pounds)
HALs up front (8 pounds)
! heat sheilding underneath the car (8 pounds)
! AIR pump, Cruise control, EGR (11 pounds)
! jack and spare (35 pounds)

The above are pretty stealth reductions and add up to around: 300 pounds <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Add lightweight drag rims to that and you drop another ~100 pounds.

There are LOT of other things you can do too...

(BTW I have NOT done all these mods to my car. Also I would reccomend a cage and 5 point if you are going to remove your airbags <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> )
cheers,
Chris

I drove my car with a stripped-out interior for nearly a month and I thought it was pretty fun, myself. I don't think you're gonna get a whole lot of interest in keeping 2 separate bolt-on lists. If you don't want to take the time or put forth the effort to reduce your weight, then just accept the fact that you're going to be slower than those of us who do it. It's not like extreme weight reduction is anything new, either, it's been done since the bolt-on list started. Those of us that are too poor to afford engine mods have to do something to make us fast.

Wow!!! I do not know what to say on this one.. I guess I qualify for this.. I ran 12.40's twice at 3780lbs and 12.50 at 3815lbs.. No weight reduction whatsoever.. This was on street tires.. One of the 12.40's was on 275 DR's and the other on 315 Street Radials.. All with no practice. Just made one pass each that day at the track. My shift points are not the same. My best run was on my old setup(Cam Only) with 3.42's on DR's at 3750lbs.. That run was 12.28 at 116mph with a 2.0 60ft.. That's when I use to practice.. I am sure I can get my old times and better if I go to the track more..

I think the more "variables" and "conditions" you put on these stupid titles, the less they mean. Just my opinion.

My best stock-internal full weight (excluding front swaybar, yet including everything else, and even a half a tank of gas - 3500 lbs.) is 12.039 @ 115.80 (1.82). This time was done on 16" Nitto DR's w/a completely stock M6 drivetrain (3.42 gears) in humid air at the Motorplex in Ennis, TX.

Wow Rage.. You must be a very small person. If I may ask. How much do you physically weigh.. 3500lbs with a half a tank of gas and the only weight reduction was the removal of a sway bar.. You guys are making me more depressed by the minute. I have to remove all the stuff on Chris list to get to your race weight with 1/4th tank of gas.. I do weigh 275lbs.. Correction.. I am down to 270lbs. I am leaning up.. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> My point is. There must be hidden iron in my SS. I will never get the times you guys run.. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

(Hopefully 10.9X's@123-124 too) <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

I ran 11.89 at 115.5mph (1.69) qualifying on that list except the front swaybar.

Mods were:
Mac with OR ypipe
cutout
lid, ported maf
ASP
McLeod
4.10's on stock rear
Et streets with prostars all around

removed:
front swaybar
back seat and seatbelts
spare

I agree also the things people are taking off get a little carried away. I mean it's basicially "who can take off the most weight" race. To each their own though.

I'm thinking a list of "fastest purple cars with 2.73 gears" would be SWEET <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Firebird]" title="" src="graemlins/formula.gif" />

Soaking wet and fully clothed, I might see 160, but I've never been higher than that. I've thought about trying to gain some weight (so the chicks will all flock to me), but I decided not to, because after all, this is drag racing, and I do have a girlfriend that I'll probably be with forever and ever. I'm about 5'8", so it's not like I'm just skin and bones, I have a little meat on me. Just not a whole lot. Anyway, my car has 0 options from the factory. It has no cruise control, no power windows, no power door locks, no leather, no CD changer, no keyless entry, etc. It does have the 8-speaker Monsoon, but that's it. So, it's light to start off with. I'd like to make a point about something Mark said: I don't really think it's become a "who can take off the most weight" race. Weight saved is stress of the drivetrain saved, as well. Which is quite important for those of us that are too poor to even afford a rear-end, clutch, etc. Just saving the weight is not all there is to it, you still have to pilot the car down the track, which involves SOME level of skill, especially for the M6 guys.

Removing the front sway doesn't make a car dangerous. I accidently AutoX'd at speeds of up 70mph without one of the endlinks. My lap times were weak, but the car was very easy to control. I beat several other cars even with the front sway disconnected.

I just thought it was kinda weird that I had about 1.5 MPH on you, and a hundredth of a second on your 60', but was still nearly 8 hundredths slower on my ET. I wonder what would cause that? I had 2.73's and was on 26 x 11.5 ET Streets and a Yank ST3500 torque converter. Interesting.

That was with 3.73's (that's why it was spinning, it used to dead hook with 2.73's) and I also have a vig converter (not as effecient as your Yank)....DA was like ~1300 above sea level or so...my previous best with 2.73's was a 12.24 @ 111.32 so I obviously didn't see a big gain with the 3.73's (and I also added a super sucker)...but who knows...either way, goin'back to the track on sat...

I say we make a list based on my signature. No headers,no stall over 2600,must run stock front wheels and tires, etc.I am joking ofcourse. My sig time was run with passenger&rear seats removed.I dont see the big deal about the pass. seat.It takes 10 minutes to take out.BTW, the only time my seats are out is at the track.I take my kids to school every morning.I have never missed not having my swaybar. And a real street car should have a spare tire & jack.I guess the bottom line for me is I just dont see a problem with removing things at the track and putting them back in for the drive home.

I went a best of 12.18 at 114 at full weight (17" nittos, FULL interior, swaybar) Raceweight should have been around 3600.

LOL. I like this! I can beat the snot out of Rageman on this list. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> With the exception of the front sway bar, my signature internet ET fits those rules....well ok, except that it is not an LS1, of course. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
